Thoughts on Ivalo?

[name_f]My[/name_f] friends are considering [name_f]Ivalo[/name_f] for their baby girl due in [name_u]January[/name_u]. Would this name work in the US? They spent their honeymoon in Lapland and there’s a village called [name_f]Ivalo[/name_f] there. What name would you pair it with?

They might have to correct the pronunciation (ee-vah-lo instead of eye-vah-lo) but I think it works! It’s a pretty name with accessible nicknames like Evie and Val. I’d use a more familiar middle.

Pronunciation could be interesting and its not an obvious girls name to me since it looks a bit like [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]. Certainly unique!

It may well get pronounced as Eye-vuh-lo but i think it’s an easy correction to make. It’s a nice name

it reads masculine to me & pronounciation might be a bit of an issue (I assume it’s ee vah lo ? but many would say eye vah lo ?) but I do think it’s very pretty & usable on a girl !!

I really like it!! It’s a sweet choice that’s easy to say and spell, and may have some pronunciation issues but I don’t think it would be hard to get after one correction. I love especially that it has meaning to them! [name_f]Beautiful[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] friends would pronounce it as ee-va-lo. They dont have Nordic heritage but they love Findland and Norway. [name_f]My[/name_f] friend told me they are considering the combo [name_f]Ivalo[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. Thank you for your thoughts!

I think it’s beautiful! It can also be pronounced “ee-va-loo” (Greenlandic pronunciation, from memory). There is a Danish princess called [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Ivalo[/name_f] [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f], so it’s a rare but established Nordic name.

I love the sound and quirky O ending. The only thing that puts me off a little is the meaning “sinew” but not many will know that!
