Does anyone have any thoughts on the wearability of Junonia? We are expecting #3, and are team green this time. We have a boys’ name we’ve had all along, but are out of ideas if it’s a third girl!
Junonia is an incredibly sentimental name to us, and my other daughters love the name [name_f]Junie[/name_f] from reading too much [name_f]Junie[/name_f] B. [name_m]Jones[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure how wearable it is, or if I should stick with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], which doesn’t hold the sentimental value.
This would be a sibling for [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f].
I prefer [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] as well, but if Junonia is special I think you should go with it. It’s not the oddest name i’ve ever heard, and with [name_f]Juno[/name_f] or [name_f]Junie[/name_f] as a nickname, I could see it being wearable. I would definitely keep the middle name more toned down, if you do choose to go with it.
Should have mentioned - middle name will be [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_u]James[/name_u] is an important family name that we have been saving to use for a boy, but this is likely last baby so it will be middle name either way.
Junonia is pretty clunky to me, sorry. It sounds like an awkward smoosh resulting from someone trying to combine [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f]. What about just [name_f]Juno[/name_f] or [name_f]Junia[/name_f]? They’re lovely, unique names with a lot of history, and you’d still have the [name_f]Junie[/name_f] B. [name_m]Jones[/name_m] connection.
I like [name_f]Junia[/name_f], it’s pretty and somewhat “sleek”. I don’t really like Junonia, tbh… however, it certainly isn’t awful. And if it really means this much to you -is THE name- you should probably go with it…
As others have said, I prefer [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] etc. However, I don’t see Junonia as unwearable, it has familiar sounds and accessible nicknames, and if it has strong sentimental value for you then I wouldn’t let a little clunkiness hold you back.

I pronounce [name_f]Junia[/name_f] as [name_m]JUN[/name_m]-ee-ah, but I’m sure there are people saying it both ways- like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] being pronounced both uh-meel-yah and uh-mee-lee-ah.
I agree with some of the others here that have mentioned that Junonia looks a bit clunky. My eyes didn’t want to register the name until I slowed down and really focused on the order of the letters. It’s a bit of a jumble at first. However, I don’t think it is completely unwearable. If it is sentimental to you and you love the name, you should go for it!
As far as “[name_u]June[/name_u]” names go, I’ve always liked [name_f]Juna[/name_f].
I don’t like it. It’s too unwieldy and complicated. I love [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and can’t see how it’s nicknamey at all. [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Junie[/name_f] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] also are good.
I agree, Junonia is a bit overlong. Where is it from? It reminds me of Giunone, the Italian form of [name_f]Juno[/name_f] (also Junon is the [name_m]French[/name_m] form and Junona the Polish, I just found out). You might also like [name_f]Juniata[/name_f] (a river in Pennsylvania), [name_f]Djuna[/name_f] or [name_f]Junia[/name_f] (I say [name_f]Junie[/name_f]-a).

Oh wow, I love that! Are they the same as “juno volupta seashells?”
I just read that the seashell is named after the peacock, which was called Junonia ales or “bird of [name_f]Juno[/name_f]” in Latin. (I wonder if there is a myth behind that connection, between the goddess and peacock.) Junonia literally means “[name_f]Juno[/name_f]'s” or “of [name_f]Juno[/name_f].” If you used [name_f]Juno[/name_f], it could still be a (less direct) reference to the seashell.
The background story makes me like Junonia more, though.
That meaning is lovely. And now that I’ve seen Junonia a few times (whenever it was on top of the girl’s name forum) it doesn’t seem strange or clunky anymore…
She might have to repeat or spell her name, yes. But I don’t think people would continue to mispronounce it or anything. I personally have actually come to really like the name.
I think you should use it. She’ll likely be called [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], JJ or [name_f]Junie[/name_f] anyway but she’ll have a special connection to you.
