Thoughts on just Liv (and Romeo too if you don't mind)?

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] has been bugging me lately and I really love her simplicity and fresh feel. I pronounce it as Leev and my main association is the fabulous actress [name_f]Liv[/name_f] Ullmann. Where I live everyone would pronounce it Leev as well.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s substantial all on it’s own?
[name_m]Will[/name_m] it age well on a girl?
Can [name_f]Liv[/name_f] only be nickname material?

I’m a week away from my scheduled c-section and suddenly I’m not sure of anything anymore and to be honest I’ve grown bored with the names I’ve picked out (in signature). These twins will probably be my only children and I really have come to realized that everything can go to f*ck… I just want to use the names I love.

Would also be great to get some opinions on [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] for a boy as it’s been my guilty pleasure for years and it’s the boy name of my dreams.

Opinions from Spanish or Spanish speaking berries would be amazing as I’m an expat and will most probably stick around forever if possible

I really like [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. It is a little weird in Spanish because of the way the V sounds like a B, but I still don’t dislike it. If [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] can be popular in Spain, why not [name_f]Liv[/name_f]?

I think it’s plenty substantial (almost like a hybrid between [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Luz[/name_f], which both work fine on their own.) It definitely ages well—it would feel very sleek and professional on an adult. As far as nicknames go, the only one I can think of is [name_f]Livy[/name_f]/Livi, which is cute.

[name_m]Romeo[/name_m] I find a lot less wearable. It’s one of those [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f]-type names that is just permanently linked to one person. I like the Spanish pronunciation better than the English, but I think it would be open to teasing anywhere. I’d use it in the middle, and only put it up front if you really, truly have to use it.

I adore [name_f]Liv[/name_f], especially with the Norwegian pronunciation (my chief association with it is [name_f]Liv[/name_f] Ullmann as well). I think it ages well. Historically [name_f]Liv[/name_f] was always an independent name so I don’t see why it should be a nickname only.

I’m not Spanish or Spanish speaking, sorry  I’d say to use the names that you love! I don’t see anything wrong with using [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] if it’s the name that you love. And if they are going to be your only children, wouldn’t you rather them have the names that you want them to have. Here’s a real-life situation to think about. My stepmom, for instance, let her husband name their daughters instead of finding some kind of compromise name and her kids love the names she’d wanted more than the names that they ended up with. I’d use [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] if it’s the one that you really want for a boy.

On [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. It’s is a nice name as well, and if you want to use it go ahead~

If you’re saying fuck everything else, it seems like you’ve already made up your mind, haha.

I can’t imagine how I’d feel if I met a [name_m]Romeo[/name_m]. It’d be pretty cute, I guess. I think it could possibly be a bit hard on him as an adult. [name_m]Just[/name_m] on being taken seriously.

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] is not really my style, but if you think it’s the name, it seems legitimate, so I can’t think of a reason why not. Would she be getting a middle name?

I love [name_f]Liv[/name_f] in her own! I don’t like [name_m]Romeo[/name_m]. That’s pretty heavy for a kid to carry around.

I’m sorry about the language, I was just so frustrated and out of a row with my family over babies over names, over everything. I just do not enjoy feeling out of control and I haven’t had much sleep this month…

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] would be getting a middle name, yes, I’m also considering the possibility of a second middle name, maybe something to connect one twin’s name with the other’s. I’m very fond of nature names, so maybe something of the sort. I do know that I want to honor my grandmother with one of their names, she was a [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f].

Everyone is saying [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] would be hard to grow into and is totally teasing material, but I happen to know a Spanish elderly [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and he wears it so well… I think it was considerably popular generations ago, differently than in the US or UK. I find it fits with names like [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u], [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and [name_m]Albert[/name_m].

Thanks to everyone for the feedback so far! Middle name ideas for [name_f]Liv[/name_f] are welcome.

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] is gorgeous. Strong and elegant. Definitely stands on her own and I think will age very nicely.

[name_m]Romeo[/name_m] would stay on the GP list for me, though ive heard it used. [name_u]Romy[/name_u] would be a cute nickname.

Good luck!

Thanks for your comments! [name_u]Romy[/name_u] is adorable, but maybe a bit too associated with girls? I mean, the only [name_u]Romy[/name_u] I ever heard of was the actress [name_u]Romy[/name_u] Schneider. I did think of [name_m]Rome[/name_m], though!

I’m closing this because partner is absolutely resolute in not having a son named [name_m]Romeo[/name_m]. He says it’s not because of potential teasing or ties to the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] play, but because he doesn’t like the emphasized “[name_m]Rome[/name_m]” of the name… he’s basically not a fan of place names. Good thing is that he is willing to look at some other names similar to [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and steer away a bit from our formerly “definite” names.
