Thoughts on Katherine "Kate"?

Hey everyone!
[name_f]My[/name_f] latest name crush is [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Kate[/name_f]!
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is so pretty and classic - also I’m preferring this spelling right now over [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (thanks to @marigold.solstice )
And [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is such a sweet, simple but elegant nickname!
Also, I love the history and etymology of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], meaning “pure”, coming from the Greek word katharos.
What do you guys think of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] “Kate”?
Also, what vibes does it give off, and what would you expect a [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] “Kate” to be like?
Thank you all!

I love [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ‘Kate’! I have always preferred the sharp K to the soft C. I don’t really associate her with things because her vibe can change depending on the middle name you use with her. It’s quite versatile that way! But I do categorise her as light academia (are we still doing that?!)

[name_f]My[/name_f] other favourite nickname for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but of course there are others too.

It’s completely timeless. A name I’d love to have!

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is lovely - spiky but elegant and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is so fun yet classy at the same time! I’ve been enjoying the K spelling too - possibly because of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ‘Kitty’ from BBC Ghosts, but also because it looks very visually appealing - the sharp lines of the K just give the whole name a nice shape?? I don’t know what I’m talking about here

Anyway, all that to say that [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ‘Kate’ is wonderful

Thank you! And I agree with the light-academia vibes!
I’d say a classic or vintage middle name or an honour name would be what I’d use! But I think Katherine’s quite versatile

Thank you! I agree with what you’re saying about the K.
I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] “Kate” would work nicely with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] “Mollie”

Yes!!

Personally for me [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is quite an outdated name in my mind. I do like [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and Kit/Kitty though and with this spelling the possibility or the nickname [name_u]Erin[/name_u].

I also read somewhere that originally the name meant ‘each of the two’ but in the medieval [name_u]Christian[/name_u] world it became associated with katharos meaning pure. If you’re really wanting that meaning you might want to go for [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] which is one step closer to katharos than [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. I also prefer this spelling I think it looks prettier but that’s probably because it’s how my great grandmother spelt her name.

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] to me is quite a studious, quiet, cottage core vibe. A bookworm kind of vibe.

[name_f]Kate[/name_f] is more lively, full of joy, life of the party kind of vibe for me

Absolutely beautiful. :relaxed: I adore these names! Yes, yes, yes from me!

I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] are so versatile that they could mold to fit anybody. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] might be more mature, doting, sunny—and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] might be more reckless, excited, and chatty. I’ve known Katherines and Kates personally who’ve been curly-haired and praising mothers, girls in glasses who’ve dearly loved the violin, redheads with quiet souls, highly personable archers, and babies with big smiles. Anyone fits this name, which is delightful.

I may be a bit biased as I’ve grown up with a few Kates as important forces in my life, but I absolutely adore Kate!! She’s full of wisdom. I’ve recently grown to love [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] as well, though I’ve yet to warm up [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] as much-- [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] seems very distant (in a beautiful, stained glass sort of way) and less evocative of a certain era for me, though [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is nice too (especially with the nickname Katya)! Such a sunshine-y name.

I prefer the nickname [name_f]Kiki[/name_f] for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], but [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is a classic name for that. It’s beautiful.

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is gorgeous!

She’s so elegant, timeless, graceful and has a regal flair. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (this spelling) is within my family so feels very familiar in a homely comfortable way. I prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] visually I think the soft c is just looks so pretty and classic. However both spellings are lovely she’s truly gorgeous. [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is a sweet nickname as well.

I like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]! It’s a bit of a family name. Good spelling, I like both (don’t try to moderize it with Caythrhynne or whatever) One of my good friends is just plain [name_f]Kate[/name_f], so I like that, and [name_f]Cate[/name_f] too. I also like the nn Rin/Rynn/Rynne

I love [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. Despite how well-used it is in my (Millennial) generation, i heard it (the full Katherine) on a little girl at the park recently and was surprised by how utterly fresh and charming it sounded. I also find [name_f]Kate[/name_f] to be one of those names that just adds a grace note to anyone who wears it—it sounds stately but accessible, breezy and solid all at once. :100: a great name. It’s the one evergreen classic I would absolutely use for my third child but sadly my husband does feel like he’s just known too many.

Big [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] fan, although I do prefer the [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] spelling, and the spunky [name_u]Kit[/name_u] over [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I know too many Kates for it to feel like it’s a blank slate, if that makes sense? It’s a nice name but feels very standard and I just think of the Kates I know.

And that’s not to say there’s a lot of them… I don’t think of it as that common as all, but I think I’m in a pocket of them. [name_f]Cate[/name_f] still feels fresh, but somehow [name_f]Kate[/name_f] doesn’t (I do love [name_f]Kate[/name_f] itself as a middle name, though!). I also love that [name_f]Kate[/name_f] reminds me of [name_m]Martin[/name_m] Luther’s wife; she was such a cool character. I would expect a [name_f]Kate[/name_f] to be like her (spunky, confident, intelligent, strong).

[name_f]Kate[/name_f] is a great name - chic, friendly, timeless. I like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] too (my middle name is Catherine!) but the “th” syllable feels sort of lispy to me sometimes so it’s not a top favorite. I also love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_f]Katie[/name_f].

A charming, timeless classic!
