thoughts on Lazarus

My husband announced a couple of days ago that he really likes [name]Lazarus[/name] for a son if we have one. I’ve been mulling this over and i’m still not sure how i feel about it! Its very cool, especially with nn [name]Lazer[/name], its very biblical, its very bold. That’s all i’ve got. What do you think?

I actually think it goes well with [name]Juniper[/name]. If you can take the biblicalness of it (ie: you’re at least somewhat religious), it can end up being very cool.

I’m no Bible-scholar, so take this with a grain of salt. My first association with [name]Lazarus[/name] is a rotting corpse. Sorry! I know - [name]Jesus[/name], miracles, etc. But I just think corpse.

I’m crushing hard on [name]Laszlo[/name] lately. Think Bogey as [name]Victor[/name] [name]Laszlo[/name] in Casablanca, and [name]Ralph[/name] Fiennes in The English Patient. [name]Peter[/name] Lorre’s real name was [name]Laszlo[/name]! It’s Hungarian… Insanely sexy imo.

Why not? If children these days can be named [name]Moses[/name] and [name]Salome[/name], I don’t see how it can’t escape it’s biblical roots. I like the Spanish/Italian variation of [name]Lazaro[/name] as well.

Thanks for your replies everyone. [name]Lazarus[/name] is growing on me, and i do love the idea of nn [name]Lazer[/name]. But, we aren’t religious and the corpse association isn’t good!
@Emmabobemma, i had forgotten about [name]Laszlo[/name], i’ll to mention it to my husband, i love it. Lazaro has gone on the list too

I have to say that I think about death too. Sorry :frowning:

I’d go for [name]Alonzo[/name] or [name]Lorenzo[/name] or [name]Lazlo[/name] before [name]Lazarus[/name].

I think [name]Lazarus[/name] is pretty awesome actually. If you aren’t religious though, I’d try to talk your husband into [name]Laszlo[/name], [name]Alonzo[/name], or [name]Lorenzo[/name].

It has a very strong religious affiliation, which I don’t personally care for. There also is, or used to be, a department store named [name]Lazarus[/name]. If your husband likes bold names, he may like these:

[name]Wolfgang[/name]
[name]Galileo[/name]
[name]Newton[/name]
[name]Bandit[/name]
[name]Fox[/name]
[name]Wilder[/name]
[name]Rocket[/name]
[name]Wolf[/name]
[name]Commodore[/name]
[name]Orion[/name]
[name]Aristotle[/name]
[name]Blaze[/name]
[name]Maximus[/name]

im hungarian and can’t get my head around why so many people on this site like Laszo  i was also wondering how do you guys would pronounce it ?

If he’s attracted to the meaning behind the [name]Lazarus[/name] story (rising from death/ashes), you might consider [name]Phoenix[/name].

love [name]Lazarus[/name] - he represents coming BACK to life, not death. and [name]Lazer[/name]??? way to trendy, trying way too hard. call him [name]Lazarus[/name]. and why does religion have to be a turn off? if you dont believe it, how is it different than using a myth or fairy tale name?

I’m with @orphanedhanyou - I think of coming back to life much more than death itself! I’ve been around Nameberry long enough to realize that religion is a big turn-off for a lot of people (not that I understand why, but that’s beside the point). I have been reading the story of [name]Lazarus[/name]'s resurrection in my personal Bible study this week, and just last night I was thinking how very cool [name]Lazarus[/name] was, and I was just considering making a thread of my own with it! I probably would have (or will) use [name]Lazarus[/name] as a middle, because I feel like [name]Boaz[/name] and [name]Lazarus[/name] are both way too much strong, eccentric Bible names and too many "Z"s for two brothers. But I do really like it. I have been tossing around [name]Zane[/name] [name]Lazarus[/name] [name]Peter[/name] for a full combo, myself. And I agree, [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Lazarus[/name] would be so cool for siblings!

I’m drawn to [name]Eleazar[/name] (same Hebrew name as [name]Lazarus[/name]) and another [name]Eleazar[/name] is featured in the Chanukah story as a Maccabee. [name]Lazarus[/name] is probably more accessible and easier for people to pronounce, and I’ve known and liked Russian Lazars which is related, so I’ve been thinking about it a bit though I’m not sure because I don’t follow the [name]New[/name] Testament and it seems almost deceptive for me. But not for others!

That said, I hate [name]Lazer[/name] as a pronunciation. The Lazars I’ve known say it l’ZAR with a very soft l and emphasis on the second syllable, not [name]LAY[/name]-zer like laser tag.
