Thoughts on Linnet?

What do we think of [name_f]Linnet[/name_f], like the bird ([name_f]LINN[/name_f]-it)? I’m in the middle of SUCH a birds and words phases with names at the moment, and [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] is today’s crush. Linnets seem sweet enough birds; Wordsworth thought so (“Books! 'tis a dull and endless strife: /Come, hear the woodland linnet, / [name_m]How[/name_m] sweet his music! on my life, / There’s more of wisdom in it.”) in his poem “The Tables Turned,” one of my favorites!
[name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is my mother’s and my middle name, and [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] feels like it may be a sweet way to update a sleepy family name (and get to super sweet [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]/[name_f]Linnie[/name_f], or even Chickadee which I think is unbearably cute)! But is it… too sharp? Middle names suggestions to soften it up? I like:
[name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
But super open to others!
Any resounding thoughts? Thank you x

I love bird, nature, and word names!
I’ve never heard of [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] before. I’m not a fan of it. It has a harsh sound to it. Although it seems to have a deep connection to you so that changes a lot.
I like the nickname [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] for it.
For a middle, I’d go with a softer, more simple middle name. [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] is pretty but I think the L’s run into each other. Maybe [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]? Middle names are hard to come up for [name_f]Linnet[/name_f]. To many sounds run together with it, but [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Emelia[/name_f] is beautiful and my favorite out of your suggestions.

Personally I prefer [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], however [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] has a fresh-sounding spin on it that clearly has a deeper meaning to you. I actually don’t mind this name, though it isn’t really my style. [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] is beautiful! I also like [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Caprice[/name_f].

As an alternative to [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or [name_f]Linn[/name_f], [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] could be a cute middle name with the right first name!

I am not familiar with the [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] bird so all I see and hear is a variant spelling of [name_f]Lynette[/name_f]. I do imagine you might get that pronunciation (lin-ETT) more often than not though as people are more familiar with the name [name_f]Lynette[/name_f], perhaps not thinking to associate it with the bird.

That’s not to say it wouldn’t work though - it definitely could. [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] makes for a nice, freshened up version of namesake [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], and I like the nature association and the poem you mentioned, but I just think, for the above reason, it might work better as a middle name.

In regard to combos with [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] as first, [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] definitely has the best flow. If moving [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] into the middle be an option though, [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] would be lovely.

I like it! Sweet sound, lots of nickname options, and I agree that it’s a brilliant way to update tired [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] this name! I think it sounds nice with other nature names because it’s not (at least to me) immediately recognizable as a bird name! [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], etc. but you could also go a more feminine route fairly easily too! [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f] was the first that came to mind

I think it’s a really sweet name, although I did pronounce it in exactly the same way as [name_f]Lynette[/name_f], so there might be some confusion on that front.

[name_f]Linnet[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is gorgeous!

I really like it, though I definitely read it as lin-nette the first few times

I agree with someone who said [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] earlier - I absolutely love that as an updated version of [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].

I have trouble reading [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] as another other than “[name_f]Lynnette[/name_f]”, like the desperate Housewives character. I think it would be a constant struggle to correct people. That isn’t a deal breaker though. Are there alternate spellings that make it clearer? Like Linnitte? Linitte? I’m not usually for alternate spellings, but in this case it’s not a common name that people are accustomed to, so it wouldn’t be an issue in my mind.

Another possibility would be to combine “[name_f]Linn[/name_f]” with something - “[name_f]Linn[/name_f]” is short and easy to combine with other names. I once knew a girl named Laurelynn. It could be the end of the word (___linn) or the beginning of the name…
