Thoughts on Louella?

We’re TTC a sibling for our little girl, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Quinlan[/name_m], and I’ve been stuck trying to find a name that’s as easy, lovable and lovely as hers. [name_f]Louella[/name_f] is my great grandmother’s name, and I’ve lately reconsidered it as a rare (nearly unheard of these days!) option. I love the nickname options of [name_u]Lou[/name_u], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] or even [name_m]Louie[/name_m], but I’m not sure if it fits nicely with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. It’s certainly not as well known, but I do like it! Though I’m unsure if this is because it is nice or because it’s a family name.

What do you think?

Other names we’re considering at the moment:

[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

Our last name is Irish, similar to McKeely. To give you a better idea of our overall sibset style, if we have a boy, or a third child who is a boy, his name would either be [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] or [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] (this was decided years ago on our honeymoon!)

Thanks so much!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Louella[/name_f], it’s very gorgeous. I think it goes perfectly with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - I don’t think it matters that they’re different in popularity, I think they stylistically match each other very well, both quite feminine and roll nicely off the tongue.

Not sure if you have a middle lined up, but I like the sounds of [name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f] & [name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] from you names

I love [name_f]Louella[/name_f]! So sweet and charming, it matches directly with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], so easily in fact. It’s so soft and sweet sounding.

You’ve got a fantastic list there! Go with [name_f]Louella[/name_f] if it’s your favourite. I actually favour the [name_f]Luella[/name_f] spelling, it feels cleaner to me.

I second the suggestion of [name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f], and I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] sounds delightful to me.

While I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Louella[/name_f] I think it goes with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and I love nicknames [name_u]Lou[/name_u] and [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]. I like the connection with your family too. From your list I love [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and don’t mind [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I think they’d also go well.

I really like Louisa too.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Quinlan[/name_m] is so sweet and quirky! I love it.

And [name_f]Louella[/name_f] is just GORGEOUS with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], the soft-vintage-cream-lace style is exactly the same. I much prefer sibsets that contrast and complement rather than matchy-matchy ones - hence I much prefer [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Louella[/name_f] to [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Tess[/name_f], though [name_f]Tess[/name_f] does happen to be one of my favourite nicknames. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is just as well matched. Not so keen on [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] - though [name_f]Lila[/name_f] goes well - though that’s probably just my style. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is lovely too.

So, I think most of your choices are fabulous! [name_f]Louella[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] go the best with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and out of those I’d choose [name_f]Louella[/name_f]. For some reason I’m not mad on either [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] or [name_f]Tess[/name_f] with it - I’d probably go with something less girly, in line with [name_m]Quinlan[/name_m]. Like [name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_m]Winston[/name_m], though personally I’d steer away from very masculine middles. [name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is nice though and that’s quite girly

[name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f]
[name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]Mabyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]

Also, might you like [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Embeth[/name_f]? I was just looking at it earlier and it struck me that it might be your style. [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] too, why not?! I seem to have drifted a little from my opinon on [name_f]Louella[/name_f] . . .

While not my particular style, I think [name_f]Louella[/name_f] has a lovely sound and goes wonderfully with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Of the other names you listed, I adore [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and I think it pairs fantastically with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], as well. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is not my favorite, but again, it goes with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I do not think it’s as soft or feminine as [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but it is the same style. I don’t hate [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but I don’t love them either. I don’t think they quite fit with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] does not seem to fit at all and I do not like that one even a little, sorry. It sounds so pretentious to me.

[name_m]Long[/name_m] story short, [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is my favorite of the names you listed, followed by [name_f]Louella[/name_f], but either would be great. =]

I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Louella[/name_f] together. I like the nickname [name_u]Lou[/name_u] more than [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] (which I hate).

I strongly dislike [name_f]Louella[/name_f], it just sounds rather unattractive to me, but I love [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], especially with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (I used to have a friend named [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], haha).

From your list, I like [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f], but I think the best fits with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Tess[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Louella[/name_f]/[name_f]Luella[/name_f]! Such a pretty, sweet-sounding name and it goes great with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_u]Lou[/name_u] and [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] are adorable nicknames.

I love [name_f]Luella[/name_f] (with that spelling)! I think it goes well with [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

[name_f]Louella[/name_f] is so cute and goes wonderfully with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. But so do your other choices! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestions of [name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Louella[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

If you’re waiting something a bit more tailored than [name_f]Louella[/name_f] maybe consider [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Louise[/name_f].

Thanks so much for the great feedback, everyone! We’ll definitely be keeping this one on our list.
