I think the name Lupin is cute, though I’m not sure it’s a name at all. Wondering what people think of it as a name.
I think it works well on a boy if one can get over the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] reference. It doesn’t work on a girl imo.
I like it spelt Lupine but I think it’s very usable.
The [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] reference throws me quite a bit, so I’m not sure I’d use.
As soon as I saw it I thought of Lupus, the disease.
Sorry.
I was surprised that this is considered a boy’s name. Because it’s a floral name, I think of it as a girl’s name. (I’m not a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] follower, though.)
I also think of Lupus or [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. Ignoring the Lupus association, I would like it used as a middle for a boy.
I love Lupin! I do prefer it for a boy but I think it works for a girl too.
I think it sounds more masculine than feminine… but it also makes me think Lupus, which is a nasty disease.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] it. It works for Lupin the 3rd.
I think it could maybe work on a boy because a) sounds masculine b) Lupin from harry potter was a guy. And you gotta be ok with the reference. Maybe better as a middle name?
I wouldn’t do it if you haven’t read HP, because it’s such an obvious connection. He’s a pretty fantastic character though, so don’t rule it out.
First thought, [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]…but it was an awesome character. Second thought, Lupus. That being said, I could warm up to it.
All I can think about when I hear Lupin is [name_m]Remus[/name_m] Lupin from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. It also makes me think of Lopo, which is a boys name. I’m not the biggest fan of using it on a child, but I would use it on a puppy, especially if he looked like a wolf.
I automatically think of [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] - Professor Lupin. Can’t say I find it to be a particularly attractive name for a girl. It may be ok as a boy name, although better as a middle.
Spelled Lupin, I think it would only work as a boy’s name due to the unavoidable character association. Spelled Lupine, I think it works for either as a nature name. Either way, it’s a nice off beat name that isn’t too out there, but I would only use it as a middle.
Well, as a big fan of lupin/lupini beans in my salads, I must admit that that was my first thought. Also, like others before me, I did get the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] reference.
That said, it does have a nice sound to it, and I think it could work should you want to use it. I believe it does have a usage as a given name through history (albeit extremely rare), likely originally inspired by the Lupinius plant itself.
I think it’s a nice nature name and has the strong potential to work as a unisex name. (I Prefer the Lupine spelling but Lupin is good too and avoids people wanting to pronounce it “pine”.)
I think [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fans or anime buffs familiar with Lupin III might have trouble seeing this name as “all boy” but there isn’t anything particularly masculine about it.
I think it’s really nice. I think of [name_m]Remus[/name_m] Lupin (which is awesome) and the plant. The disease crossed my mind, but I wouldn’t be bothered about it, you’ll get used to it. Besides there are many names out there being used that are ACTUALLY the name of a disease, not only is a bit similar like Lupin and Lupus. [name_u]Addison[/name_u] for instance…
I like Lupin on both girls and boys
Sorry I completely read that as lupus at first. I’ve never seen nor read [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] so I don’t know about that association, but the lupus connection makes this a definite no for me.
