Thoughts on the name [name_f]Mair[/name_f] to honour a [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and also how would you pronounce it?
I would say ā[name_f]Mare[/name_f].ā I think [name_f]Mair[/name_f] is beautiful. It reminds me of the [name_u]French[/name_u] word for sea āmerā and itās a very pretty way to honor a [name_f]Mary[/name_f]!
I like [name_f]Mairwen[/name_f], donāt love [name_f]Mair[/name_f] on its own. I would pronounce it as air-with an M.
Mair is beautiful, and a great way to honor a [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Iād also pronounce it as āmareā or air with an m!
Mair is intriguing. I like the distinct sounds!
Mair is a really fresh way to honour a [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Would also assume that itās pronounced like mare.
I also really like the [name_f]Mairwen[/name_f] suggestion from @QuirkFlower - the longer form looks absolutely gorgeous, and having the nickname option [name_f]Mair[/name_f] makes it very flexible (long feminine names with short nicknames just work for me because I think it gives the kid options to pick from, depending on which one ends up suiting their personality more).
That being said, I think [name_f]Mair[/name_f] works as a stand alone name too!
I would say mare, which reminds me of the saying āIām having a mareā (nightmare) before mare the animal.
I like it, anyway. I also like the [name_f]Mairwen[/name_f] suggestion.
I like it! I too would pronounce it to rhyme with āairā. Itās simple, punchy but soft, and somehow manages to feel traditional and familiar while being almost unknown.
Mair and [name_f]Mairwen[/name_f] are both great ways to go!
I agree with pp that it reads as āmareā. Here are some other suggestions to honor a [name_f]Mary[/name_f]: [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Mari[/name_f], [name_u]Marin[/name_u], [name_u]Marion[/name_u], [name_f]Marine[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Mariana[/name_f], [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f], [name_f]Marta[/name_f], [name_u]Maria[/name_u], [name_f]Marla[/name_f], Marzi, [name_u]Marley[/name_u].
Mair is my grandmotherās middle name. I absolutely love it and think its a really lovely choice!
Mair is so pretty! I think it might look nice spelled with an e as well ([name_f]Maire[/name_f])!
