Thoughts on Maren

I have been giving a lot of thought to [name]Maren[/name], went to school with a [name]Maren[/name] but never loved it. Now its really growing on me and my Husband likes it as well. To me its soft and feminine but not super frilly, which I like, and still not overly common. I think I prefer it spelled~ [name]Maren[/name]. No idea about a middle name.

What are your thoughts on the name? [name]Do[/name] you think Koston, [name]Nella[/name] and [name]Maren[/name] flows well?

Any input is appreciated, Thanks!

I really like [name]Maren[/name] a lot, it is on our short list of names for our baby girl due in a few weeks. I like it because it is uncommon, but still accessible. Different, but not so much so that it is really “out there”. Concerns for me is that since it isn’t common people may not know how to pronounce it (even though to me it seems pretty natural to pronounce).

But I do like it and think it is VERY pretty obviously

Thank you! I agree with all of what you said. Im very accustomed to having a name no one can ever get right but I still love my name. And I didnt take it the easiest on my kids in that way  I agree with you it doesnt seem that hard to pronounce anyway. Growing up with a [name]Maren[/name] I never realized it was so uncommon.

Good luck with your name search! I have until [name]September[/name] so I’ve got a bit of time left yet

I think [name]Maren[/name] is very pretty! I’m pronouncing it [name]Mare[/name]-in, [name]Mar[/name] as in [name]Mary[/name]. Seems like a simple, pretty, name with a familiar feel even though it’s not that common. Great choice in my opinion!

I love the name [name]Maren[/name]! Ii’ve like it ever since the movie Braveheart came out so many years ago. I also like it spelled Merrin. I was disappointed that my husband vetoed it. Go for it!

I also like it spelled Merrin but usually am not one for creative spellings. Not sure if that spelling would create a headache as far as pronunciation and spelling difficulties or not. Now I’m also wondering if it sounds ok with our surname which is House. Its quite difficult to work with. Thanks for the input!

I like [name]Maren[/name] a lot! I discovered it when I saw this short-lived show with [name]Julianna[/name] Margulies (it was called The Grid, I think?) years ago, and it stuck with me the whole time. I remember liking it because it was so close to my mom’s name ([name]Karen[/name]), and years later, when I came across it again, I loved it as a way to honor my mom. [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Maren[/name] was on my list for a while, and I still really like it. I prefer [name]Maren[/name] as a MN, but it’s nice in either spot.

Something classic seems to go well with [name]Maren[/name], I think–like [name]Maren[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Maren[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]. [name]Maren[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Maren[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name], etc.

love it…

[name]Maren[/name] is sweet, soft and feminine and I think [name]Nella[/name] and [name]Maren[/name] would be lovely for sisters.

I have an eleven-year-old cousin named [name]Maren[/name], and I think it is a nice name. Unusual, but definitely pronounceable and not weird. I’ve seen it spelled [name]Marin[/name] and Maryn, too, but [name]Maren[/name] is probably my favorite of those.

When I first heard [name]Maren[/name] a few years ago, it was in a book by [name]Megan[/name] McCafferty, I didn’t like it. It’s really started to grow on me though, especially when spelled Merrin or [name]Merryn[/name], it seems more feminine to me.

I think it’s pretty nice. It reminds me of my junior high music teacher, Mrs. [name]Maren[/name].

I pronounce [name]Maren[/name] and Merrin differently, so I don’t see Merrin as a different spelling of [name]Maren[/name]; to me it’s a different name.
I think it’s a regional thing - the [name]Mary[/name], merry, marry thing - in some regions, people pronounce them all the same, in others they are all distinct.

I say [name]Maren[/name] with a short as in cat. - or it could also be with a long a as in mare.
Merrin with a short e as in pet.

I love it! I tried to convince DH to use it for our second girl who’s coming in [name]September[/name] also, but I couldn’t.
