Thoughts on Marilla?

I was watching [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables the other day (one of my favorites) and remembered how much I loved the name [name_f]Marilla[/name_f] when I was a kid (and how much I loved [name_f]Anne[/name_f]'s daughter [name_f]Rilla[/name_f] in the book series) and was wondering if it is viable as a name in the 21st century?

And how does it sound with some of the other names my fiance and I like? ([name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], etc. - they’re in my signature)
[name_f]Marilla[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] maybe?

I absolutely love [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables, and the character [name_f]Marilla[/name_f]. Definite childhood staple. I’ve loved the name for a while too, and I would [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] to see someone else use it. [name_f]Marilla[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is perfection. I think it works well with all your boys’ names, but the girls are a little iffy. [name_f]Marilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are too similar for my taste–I think [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] both work well with [name_f]Marilla[/name_f], and I’m torn on [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]. On the one hand, the sounds flow well together. On the other, the feel and style are totally different.

Sorry for my opinion, but all I can think is that [name_f]Marilla[/name_f] rhymes with gorilla. The ‘rilla’ sound is very unappealing to my ears, and when said aloud [name_f]Marilla[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is a bit of a tongue twister with the repeated r’s.

I like [name_f]Marilla[/name_f] with [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], but not particularly with your other names.

It reminds me of amarilla, which is Spanish for yellow, so I don’t like it with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. And after reading PP’s comment I can’t stop thinking gorilla. Too bad, it’s an interesting name in general.

[name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables is my all time favorite book! I think [name_f]Marilla[/name_f] is lovely. Not sure if I would use it, though.

I love [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables and the name [name_f]Marilla[/name_f]/[name_f]Rilla[/name_f]. I’m not sure it fits with [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] [name_f]Judy[/name_f] but it works with all of your other names.

I love [name_f]Marilla[/name_f]! And I’m not a [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables fan. I mean I enjoyed it when I was a kid to read it but wasn’t my fav by any stretch. Point is I like [name_f]Marilla[/name_f] without the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] connotation. I think it’s useable. [name_f]Marilla[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is sweet.
