We are having a baby girl in [name]December[/name] and we are having a hard time choosing her name. What do you think of [name]Marys[/name]? [name]Mary[/name] is a family name so I thought it was kind of a cute twist on it but I’m afraid it sounds made up. Our other names on our list are [name]Lola[/name], [name]Clara[/name], and [name]Meredith[/name]. Opinions please!
[name]Maris[/name] is an old name, given in honor of the Virgin [name]Mary[/name] who was sometimes called [name]Stella[/name] [name]Maris[/name], [name]Star[/name] of the Sea. [name]Marissa[/name] or [name]Marisa[/name] is the more commonly given Italianate form.
Your suggestion is also reminiscent of the Welsh name [name]Nerys[/name], which is also related to the sea.
I am usually not in favor of nontraditional spellings or invented names, but this one is really quite intriguing. It’s very beautiful in a crisp, dignified sort of way. It certainly looks distinctive on the page.
I think it’s a cute twist on [name]Mary[/name]. But I do think that with the y it looks a little made-up. [name]How[/name] about spelling it [name]Maris[/name] instead? I know it’s not visually as obvious a link to [name]Mary[/name] but I still think it works and looks more like a name.
The only time I’ve ever heard of the name [name]Marys[/name] was from the long running TV sitcom [name]Frasier[/name]. She was the wife/ex-wife of [name]Frasier[/name]'s brother [name]Niles[/name], she was apparently not the best person. [name]Just[/name] thought you might wanna know this pop culture reference in case you hadn’t heard of it before. I like the spelling [name]Maris[/name] better, have you considered [name]Maren[/name]?
I think [name]Marys[/name] is a lovely name.
i could be the only one but person i see one [name]Mary[/name] two [name]Marys[/name] as in plural! i love the way it sounds though, it has the unique classic sound and i think a little girl could put a lot of punch behind the name! [name]Maris[/name] is an option i quite like i also love [name]Marissa[/name]/[name]Marisa[/name]!
I love it, but only spelled [name]Maris[/name].
Yeah I read it as the plural of [name]Mary[/name] at first. I think you’d be safer going with [name]Marissa[/name]. Incidentally I love [name]Nerys[/name] too.
[name]Love[/name]. [name]Carys[/name] and [name]Nerys[/name] too.
[name]Marys[/name] is beautiful. I also really like [name]Clara[/name]. I think it’s pretty straight forward in terms of pronunciation. If people have difficulty, it wouldn’t be for long.
[name]Marys[/name] is a lovely name, though I prefer the [name]Maris[/name] spelling. Like someone else mentioned, [name]Maris[/name] was the wife of [name]Niles[/name] on the show [name]Frasier[/name], and that’s the only time I’ve ever heard it. Sadly, I’m sure that many people will think this name is made up simply because they haven’t been exposed to it before, but you’ll also find many people who will compliment your selection and appreciate its tastefulness. If you go with it, you need to love it enough that others’ opinions won’t matter.
[name]Clara[/name] is also a very lovely selection, familiar but not as common.
I like it very much, but as others have said, that spelling looks like a plural [name]Mary[/name]. Maryn is also pretty (like the actress Marin Hinkle, but spelled more reminiscently of Mary…almost like Robyn). Or perhaps Maryl (similar to Meryl), or Maryt (like Merit).
I like [name]Maris[/name], [name]Marise[/name] and [name]Maren[/name].
I don’t like [name]Marys[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Mara[/name]?..Some meaning!.. [name]Clara[/name] is pretty too!
I also prefer tje [name]Maris[/name] spelling. [name]Marys[/name] reminds me of [name]Jordyn[/name], [name]Madisyn[/name], [name]Camryn[/name] etc. as well as [name]Mary[/name]'s.
I would love to uses the name [name]Maren[/name] as a middle name if we have a girl to honor a [name]Mary[/name] and a [name]Karen[/name]. If I only wanted to honor.[name]Mary[/name], I would use [name]Maris[/name].
