meaning ‘blackbird’?
Are you thinking boy or girl?
I think most people dont know who he is but i instantly think [name_u]Merle[/name_u] Haggard, hes my grandfathers favorite country singer, and therefore they named their old bassett after him.
Still a nice old man name. I think it would be great to see it on a little boy. Its very much like [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] ([name_u]Guthrie[/name_u]). I would use it
I like it. I love its meaning because nature names are sweet. It does bring country music to mind - I think of [name_u]Merle[/name_u] [name_m]Travis[/name_m] and [name_u]Merle[/name_u] [name_m]Watson[/name_m] - but that’s not necessarily relevant. I think “merle”-coated dogs like Border collies are beautiful. It’s a name with a lot of positive associations, and one you don’t here these days, at least not where I live. It’s got kind of “old man” vibes like the pp said but that’s kind of my style, too. What are you thinking for middle names and/or sibling names? I’d love to see it used!
I think it’s adorable. Very “old man” in the best way possible. The Beatles’ song “Blackbird” comes to mind.
I agree with the previous commenters! It’s a sweet old man name that would be adorable on a little boy. Also I think the association with rocking country music would make this a name a man could wear too.
I do think of [name_u]Merle[/name_u] Haggard. For some reason I’m not feeling it at all per say but I have such a hard time coming up with boy names I like so take that into consideration!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] out of curiosity, how do you pronounce [name_u]Merle[/name_u] in [name_f]England[/name_f]? In the Netherlands I know it as a girls name pronounced [name_f]MAIR[/name_f]-luh (approximately)
I think it’s a very sweet name for a little boy!
Like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] but with an "M’
Thanks guys. Great answers here. My Mum suggested it to me after a girl she used to know but I also think it is really cute for a boy!!
