Thoughts on Mia?

Is [name]Mia[/name] too simple or boring for a FN? DH loves the name and I do too, but I’m just having second thoughts. On another name board, I read that someone thought it was not a “real” name and akin to that of naming your child “my” in English. Now I know [name]Mia[/name] means this in Italian, but I look at the name as more of a diminutive of [name]Maria[/name].

Thoughts? Opinions? I don’t want my daughter to feel like she has a boring name or miss the option of nicknames (I personally love that [name]Mia[/name] doesn’t have an obvious NN, but I’m not sure if that is a good or bad thing).

Thank you!

I love [name]Mia[/name] as a nn for [name]Amelia[/name]. But I think [name]Mia[/name] can stand on its own. I think it is lovely, feminine and strong. However, my hubby is in the military, so when we were discussing names and he came to [name]Mia[/name] on my list he read it as M.I.A. (aka Missing in Action)… So, obviously he crossed it off. Boo.

I like [name]Mia[/name] and think it stands alone fine as a full fn. if you guys both like it, I would just use it! There’s a lot to be said for a name with no nns! My sons name is like that, and I love it.

[name]Mia[/name] sounds like the Spanish word for “daughter.” It may be spelled the same too. I’m not sure.

Thank you! This is making me feel better about out choice!
