Thoughts on Monnox?

Was wondering any thoughts on the name Monnox for a boy?
We kind of want it to sound like mo[name_f]NIX[/name_f] instead of moNOX but we don’t like the IX spelling.

[name_m]General[/name_m] thoughts/opinions of the name and/or spelling are greatly appreciated!

Sounds absurd to me. I can’t see this random collection of letters as a name. I just see ‘monoxide’.

To be honest, it looks like the name of a disease and I wouldn’t pronounce it like Monnix at all. [name_m]Calix[/name_m] is a much better name.
EDIT: Also think about Maddox and/or Manon. Waaaaaaay better then Monnox.

In the words of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_m]Kerrigan[/name_m], Why??

What is this supposed to be? All I see is mon-nox. [name_m]Maddox[/name_m] is way better.

I definitely prefer [name_m]Maddox[/name_m] and [name_m]Lennox[/name_m]. Monnox unfortunately brings to mind mono and monoxide.

We like [name_m]Maddox[/name_m], but don’t want to be the people that name their baby after what a celebrity did.

It has a similar feel to some popular names, but I would never consider Monnox a usable name in itself. It’s too similar to monoxide, it could almost sound like a brand of cleaning agent.

Sorry.

[name_m]Maddox[/name_m] is a common enough name that people won’t say “like [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]'s son?”

This exactly.

I mean I get why you are trying to change [name_m]Maddox[/name_m] into something non-celebrity and I understand why the nix ending is less desirable, I unfortunately don’t think this works as well as you hope it does. (I think you might feel that too as you posted here asking for our thoughts).

Have you considered a short M fn and [name_m]Knox[/name_m] (or Nox if you are so inclined or a hugs SG1 fan) as a mn? [name_m]Miles[/name_m] Nox nn Mox/[name_f]Moxie[/name_f] for example could work well.

Celebrities don’t get to ruin names for the rest of us! It did get rather trendy though. I’m defensive because [name_m]Maddox[/name_m] is my son’s middle name.

I don’t know that trendy is worse than made up though. You could spell it [name_m]Madox[/name_m], or use [name_m]Madoc[/name_m]. [name_m]Maxen[/name_m] is another thought. Or [name_m]Knox[/name_m].

What about Moxon?

Monnox isn’t a name, is it? [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Lennox[/name_m], [name_m]Mannix, Maddox[/name_m] or just Knox would be much better.

No. It’s still made up. Like a PP said, trendy is always better than made-up.

Names have to be made at some point…

Google etymology. Names develop over time without the involvement of whipping some random syllables out of the air.

And your point is?

The point is that when names are “made up”, they elements in the name have a meaning. Monnox (which my nook just tried to change to monoxide) and Moxon don’t.

Moxon is just as bad as Monnox. All I see is oxen-with-an-m.

Renrose & Casilda are absolutely right - names aren’t just ‘made up’ - all the elements are pulled from other words/meanings and put together to create a name. Monnox is just someone trying to take a perfectly legitimate, somewhat normal name and be creative with it, and, as someone who works in schools, I would likely have to refrain from bursting out into laughter if I saw something as ridiculous as that on the attendance sheet. It’s not a name. It looks like monoxide - a deadly gas. As for Moxon, all I see is oxymoron.

[name_m]Mannix[/name_m] sounds like a good idea! [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of people make up names–it’s not a crime–but it will be viewed as such by name lovers!

I also really like my idea of [name_m]Maxen[/name_m]…
