Thoughts on my favorite names, please. :)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I’m new to Nameberry, but have been named obsessed for about 20 years. I don’t have children or really plan to, but my fur-babies are [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u] ‘[name_f]Mia[/name_f]’-13 year old cat, [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] ‘[name_u]Ari[/name_u]’-11 year old cat, and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]-7 year old dog.

Here are my current favorites at the moment, and actually most of them have been pretty steadily on the list for years and years. A few additions and subtractions along the way.

Girls:

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]

[name_f]Greta[/name_f] maybe nick name [name_f]Gerty[/name_f]. My husband loves [name_f]Gerty[/name_f], so that kind of excites me since he doesn’t care about names that much.

[name_f]Estella[/name_f] or maybe just [name_f]Stella[/name_f]? Kind of popular, but this is just hypothetical anyway, so I guess it doesn’t matter.

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]-This is my mom’s cat’s name, but again, just hypothetical.

[name_f]Aine[/name_f]

[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]

Boys:

[name_m]Colm[/name_m]-I read a book recently with this as a character, and totally fell in love.

[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]

[name_m]Julian[/name_m]

[name_m]Liam[/name_m]-[name_m]Way[/name_m] way too popular, and my nephew’s name. But I do just love it.

[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]

I know that there’s a Gaelic theme for boys. We have an Irish last name, and 11 nephews have Gaelic names. So, I kind of get sucked in.

Thanks in advance!

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]: I like it, but it feels really try-hard-y to me.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]: This is my name!! It gets misspelled a lot. Please, don’t use the nickname [name_f]Gerty[/name_f]. If you really like [name_f]Gerty[/name_f], use [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f].
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]: I really like this! It feels very classy and Continental European while being accessible to English speakers. I like [name_f]Stella[/name_f] too but I agree that it’s trendy.
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]: [name_m]Will[/name_m] be swallowed up in a see of [name_f]Lilies[/name_f], and I also think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] will be perceived as a [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] typo constantly. Also I think it would get misread, since it could be two or three syllables.
[name_f]Aine[/name_f]: I like this name, but unless you live somewhere with a LOT of Irish people, spell it [name_f]Anya[/name_f].
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]: It’s popular for a reason. It’s feminine but not quite so aggressively so as [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. And [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is so cute as a nickname.
[name_m]Colm[/name_m]: Ditto with [name_f]Aine[/name_f]. I went to school with one but I didn’t ever talk to him, so I only saw it written down, and I always thought it was [name_m]Colm[/name_m], one syllable, but it’s not.
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]: I know this is Ewe-unn, but I always say it like [name_u]Evan[/name_u] with a w. But I like it, a nice [name_u]Owen[/name_u] alternative.
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]: I love [name_m]Julian[/name_m]! It’s so handsome, and it’s less brusque than a lot of popular masculine names right now.
[name_m]Liam[/name_m]: Hey, popular for a reason.
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]: I assume you will be buying him a lacrosse stick as soon as he exits the womb.

Thanks for your thoughts. [name_f]Aine[/name_f] and [name_m]Colm[/name_m] are difficult, I agree. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] would get swallowed up in the ‘[name_f]Lilie[/name_f]’ names. And as for [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]; I wouldn’t buy him a lacrosse stick. It’d be a baseball bat and glove. .

As for [name_f]Gerty[/name_f], I just don’t care for [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. It’s okay; I’d probably only end up using it for a cat someday.

Oh, yeah, baseball works too. I just heavily associate [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] with being the type of guy who is a super jock/bro type. Friends with guys named [name_m]Liam[/name_m]/[name_m]Jack[/name_m]/[name_m]Connor[/name_m]/[name_u]Pat[/name_u].
