Thoughts On My Girls List?

After taking a break from names for a little while, I’ve found myself with a revised list of girls names that I’d like to weed through, as 29 names is a bit long.

I’m fully aware that my style is not to everyone’s tastes, and it’s certainly considered an “odd one out” on Nameberry, but, I’m hoping to receive some helpful feedback and suggestions!

Here are the only criteria S/O and I really have;

Thank you!

I like your list a lot. These names all look so much more streamlined and wearable with the conventional spellings. I think that’s a really good criterion to have, and will make your daughter’s life a lot easier!

My personal favourites are:

[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_u]Reese[/name_u]
[name_u]Saylor[/name_u] ([name_u]Sailor[/name_u] if you want the conventional spelling perhaps?)

I really like those first two especially!

You might like [name_u]Brighton[/name_u] too?

First of all, I thought of [name_u]Arden[/name_u] immediately when I was reading your criteria. It’s wearable, versatile, and fairly rare. As for your list:

[name_u]Addison[/name_u] - I like it. It’s becoming so, so common though, combined with other “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]” names ([name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], etc.) If you’re concerned about popularity, this might be one to eliminate, because I can see it rising further.

[name_f]Anniston[/name_f] - This reminds me so much of [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] Aniston. I don’t know if I could eliminate the association. Nothing against her, but I’d immediately picture her when I see this name.

[name_u]Aspen[/name_u] - I love the name [name_u]Aspen[/name_u]. It fits your criteria perfectly and flows nicely with your last name, and it also is very versatile.

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] - Not a huge fan of [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] personally for some reason, but it’s definitely a decent name.

[name_f]Aubriella[/name_f] - I don’t think this fits the criteria you have of fitting any personality. [name_f]Aubriella[/name_f] feels very, very feminine to me.

[name_u]Avery[/name_u] - I like this name, but it definitely could rise into the top 10 (it’s now at #16.)

[name_u]Blakely[/name_u] - Seems to fit your criteria really well. It’s a nice name, but not a personal favorite.

[name_u]Bristol[/name_u] - [name_m]Just[/name_m] reminds me of [name_u]Bristol[/name_u] [name_u]Palin[/name_u].

[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] - I love the name [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. It’s so sweet and fits your criteria well. I love the nickname “[name_f]Emmy[/name_f].”

[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] - [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] is a beautiful name. I think it fits your criteria well and pairs nicely with your surname.

[name_u]Jersey[/name_u] - Not a huge fan of this.

[name_f]Journey[/name_f] - Same with “[name_u]Jersey[/name_u].” [name_f]Journey[/name_f] doesn’t feel very wearable to me.

[name_u]Kendall[/name_u] - I think this ultimately will feel dated soon, rather than trendy.

[name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] - [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] is a cute name, but I’m not sure how well it ages.

[name_u]Landry[/name_u] - This reminds me of [name_u]Ali[/name_u] [name_u]Landry[/name_u]. Not even sure who she is, but the name immediately filled in for me when I saw this. It also looks like “laundry” to me.

[name_u]Leighton[/name_u] - Not my taste, but it does fit your criteria.

[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] - Feels a bit too little-girly, and I don’t think it would suit everyone.

[name_f]McKenna[/name_f] - I’m not personally huge on “Mc” names because they remind me of [name_m]McDonald[/name_m]'s, but this is a nice name.

[name_u]McKinley[/name_u] - Same as [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u].

[name_u]Paisley[/name_u] - I like this. [name_u]Paisley[/name_u] is a very pretty name I’m sure most girls would like having.

[name_u]Parker[/name_u] - Doesn’t suit everyone [name_f]IMO[/name_f] because it’s so boyish. I don’t think a very girly girl would wear this name as well.

[name_u]Peyton[/name_u] - Same with [name_u]Parker[/name_u]; [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] feels so athletic.

[name_u]Presley[/name_u] - Feels a bit past its prime to me.

[name_u]Reagan[/name_u] - I like the sound of [name_u]Reagan[/name_u]. Personally I prefer [name_u]Regan[/name_u] just because I think any name with a political association could potentially be polarizing.

[name_u]Reese[/name_u] - Cute name. It reminds me of [name_u]Reese[/name_u]'s Peanut Butter Cups and [name_u]Reese[/name_u] Witherspoon.

[name_u]Riley[/name_u] - I like this name. I’ve met a few girls named [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and they all wear it well.

[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] - Not a huge fan for the same reason as with [name_u]Parker[/name_u].

[name_u]Saylor[/name_u] - A bit out there for my personal taste, but definitely very trendy.

[name_u]Taylor[/name_u] - Feels a bit dated to me.

Overall, I like this list. I love [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], and I really like [name_u]Paisley[/name_u] and [name_u]Emerson[/name_u].

My favorites are [name_u]Bristol[/name_u], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u]. I think they are both unexpected and versatile and could easily fit varied stages of life and personalities. They are tailored but lovely and not overused names.

[name_u]Addison[/name_u]- It’s alright. My name is quite similar so i’m a bit over the sound of it lol.

[name_f]Anniston[/name_f]- I also find this very tied to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] Aniston. Not a bad thing but it’s just too tied to her for me.

[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]- Not a fan. A girl I knew in high school had this name and she wasn’t very nice so people referred to her as as.s

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]- It’s okay just not my style.

[name_f]Aubriella[/name_f]- This ones also okay, girly and frilly though not my style.

[name_u]Avery[/name_u]- Been hearing it a lot lately so I’m a little sick of it. However, I was 14 when I first heard the name and I thought it was very pretty.

[name_u]Blakely[/name_u]- I prefer just [name_u]Blake[/name_u]. Also getting sick of ly/ley endings it names.

[name_u]Bristol[/name_u]- Not really a fan, but it’s ok. I think of [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_u]Palin[/name_u]'s daughter also but the association isn’t as strong as [name_f]Anniston[/name_f] is to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] (for me anyways).

[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]- I hate this name because my old tv was an [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and it caused me many problems lol.

[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]- I like it. It’s a bit refreshing even though it ends with ley along with many other trending names at the moment.

[name_u]Jersey[/name_u]- Really don’t like this one.

[name_f]Journey[/name_f]- I can see this one working. I like word names so I wouldn’t mind hearing it on a girl.

[name_u]Kendall[/name_u]- I really like it but it’s just too tied to [name_u]Kendall[/name_u] Jenner for my liking.

[name_u]Kennedy[/name_u]- I had a [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] family obsession in my early teens so for me this name feels a bit too grand for personal usage.

[name_u]Landry[/name_u]- [name_m]Way[/name_m] too close to laundry.

[name_u]Leighton[/name_u]- It’s fine just a little unattractive for me.

[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]- Heard it a lot growing up so it’s definitely feels over done and it already feels very dated.

[name_f]McKenna[/name_f]- It’s okay but just too surnamey, especially spelled like that.

[name_u]McKinley[/name_u]- Same as [name_f]McKenna[/name_f].

[name_u]Paisley[/name_u]- Feels very countryish.

[name_u]Parker[/name_u]- I’ve grown to somewhat like this name on a girl but it’s just whatever to me.

[name_u]Peyton[/name_u]- I just don’t like the sound of this one.

[name_u]Presley[/name_u]- [name_m]Elvis[/name_m].

[name_u]Reagan[/name_u]- It’s fine. It works and isn’t unusable or anything.

[name_u]Reese[/name_u]- I really like this one. I can see it working on any type of girl, from a ballerina to a skateboarder lol.

[name_u]Riley[/name_u]- I use to like this name but it had such a huge surge these past years. I don’t even interact with that many kids and I already know 4 Rileys. Also it’s one of those names that just make me get sick of hearing other names ending in ly/ley.

[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- feels a bit too boyish to me.

[name_u]Saylor[/name_u]- It’s okay, just not my style.

[name_u]Taylor[/name_u]- I knew several growing up. It does feels a bit plain though.

I would recommend [name_f]Cadence[/name_f]. This may not be your style but I also like Kennie for you.

[name_u]Addison[/name_u]- bit overused
[name_f]Anniston[/name_f]- i just think of [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] Aniston
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]- okay
[name_f]Aubriella[/name_f]- too frilly
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]- used to be one of m favourites, but since its become so popular i don’t like it as much
[name_u]Blakely[/name_u]- i only like this on a boy
[name_u]Bristol[/name_u]- sorry no, i just don’t like this
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]- this one’s alright
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]- although i prefer it on a boy, i don’t mind this
[name_u]Jersey[/name_u]- this should stay a garment, not a name
[name_f]Journey[/name_f]- i like this!
[name_u]Kendall[/name_u]- too Jenner
[name_u]Kennedy[/name_u]- i had a terrible experience with someone with this name so now i hate it, i never liked it before that though either.
[name_u]Landry[/name_u]- Laundry?
[name_u]Leighton[/name_u]- i don’t know why but i just don’t like this
[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]- bit common but okay, i little dated
[name_f]Mackenna[/name_f]- more of a surname
[name_u]Mckinley[/name_u]- even worse than [name_f]Mackenna[/name_f]
[name_u]Paisley[/name_u]- i actually really like this
[name_u]Parker[/name_u]- too masculine
[name_u]Peyton[/name_u]- reminds me of that book [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] Place that caused a big stir in the fiftys or sixtys- i forget, but it was kind of like an old fashioned Fifty Shades of [name_u]Grey[/name_u]
[name_u]Presley[/name_u]- [name_m]Elvis[/name_m]
[name_u]Reagan[/name_u]- kind of meh, but whatever
[name_u]Reese[/name_u]- peanut butter cups?
[name_u]Riley[/name_u]- too common now
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- just a boy name
[name_u]Saylor[/name_u]- just no
[name_u]Taylor[/name_u]- same as [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]

Addison- not really a fan because it reminds me of a disease. It’s also super popular in my area so, while not top 10 in the US, still overused, imo. It’s also on your initial list of names you can’t use?
Anniston- I would automatically assume that a person who uses this, regardless of spelling, was a Jennifer fan. That being said, I know a really sweet girl who’s about 16 with this name
Aspen- I used to LOVE this name! It’s not on my list anymore but I have a real sweet spot for it, and I would love to meet more little girls named Aspen. When I was in daycare, there was an Aspen who was about a year older than me who I just thought was the absolute sh*t and I about worshipped the ground she walked on
Aubrey- for some reason, the aub- sound feels a bit off in my mouth, and I just don’t like how this name sounds when I say it out loud. I prefer Audrey, or Auden might be more your style.
Aubriella- apart from this name just feeling like “too much”, it goes against your wishes to have a versatile name, in my opinion. I can’t picture a rough and tumble Aubriella.
Avery- LOVE Avery! She would be high on my list but unfortunately overused in my area as well.
Blakely- Blake/Blayke has been growing on me after watching Outdaughtered on TLC but Blakely is still hard for me to wrap my tongue around when I say it out loud
Bristol- not my favorite but definitely a real stand-out name. It’s one that I wish I could love because I think it’s a cool name, I just don’t love it
Emerson- I prefer this on a boy but I’ve only met one Emerson, who is female. Love the nickname Emmy. I prefer Emery over Emerson on a girl, but I can easily picture it on one.
Hadley- sort of a meh name for me, I used to love it but it’s starting to gain popularity in my area. Still one that I hear of and think “oh that’s nice” though
Jersey- okay I had some pretty harsh words about Jersey/Jurzie on your previous thread but I started watching The Cromarties on USA and they have a daughter named Jurzie whom I just ADORE! She’s easily my favorite family member and her name has grown on me so, while still not my style, I see the appeal and I support it
Journey- I love the connotation behind this name! I could see myself maybe using it as a middle name someday
Kendall- similar to Hadley, sort of a meh name. While not popular in my area, if I heard it I’d be like “oh okay, that’s cute” but it wouldn’t light any fires, if you understand what I mean
Kennedy- see Kendall
Landry- I do think of laundry when I see this but I actually do like the name.
Leighton- nms but definitely cute
Mackenzie- not my favorite, but not my least favorite either. I actually like the sound of it, but I’ve known stop many girls with this growing up for it to be anything special
McKenna- I really really dislike this name but it’s because I associate it with a girl who bullied my younger sister, and I can’t get over that association so just ignore my feelings about this one
McKinley- when I was in middle school, the coolest girl in my grade was named McKinley so I think of this as a “popular girl” name which has different connotations for different people. The McKinley I knew wasn’t mean but sort of acted like she was above everything. I don’t hate it but it sounds a bit stuck up.
Paisley- tbh I don’t understand the appeal. I don’t like the sound, it sounds nasally when I say it, and I can’t picture it on anyone over the age of 3.
Parker-LOVE LOVE LOVE! Parker is a bit of an oddball on my list which tends to favor feminine names over unisex ones, but I fell in love with Parker after following the story of a girl in the competitive dance community near me who unfortunately passed away over the summer after an 18 month battle with cancer. She was such a strong, sassy, inspirational girl, and I can’t see a Parker as anything except that now!
Peyton- I slightly prefer this on a boy but I also picture the Madison Pettis character from The Game Plan, so I like this but it’s a tad dated. Sort of like Mackenzie, I like the sound but it isn’t special
Presley- MUCH prefer this over Paisley. It’s softer and much less nasally
Reagan- I prefer the Regan spelling because I personally wouldn’t want my kid’s name to be tied to a president, regardless of whether or not I agreed with their poltical views. I like the sound though. I also really like Tegan
Reese- I prefer on a boy but I worked with the sweetest little girl named Reese last summer so I have a soft spot
Riley- love! I like the Reilly spelling more, not sure why because most people think it looks more masculine but I just think it looks more interesting, but Riley is sweet and not so overused that I’m tired of it yet
Sawyer- I can’t really picture it on a girl but I think I would be able to if I met a girl named Sawyer
Saylor- I had a tap teacher in 7th and 8th grade whom I adored named Saylor, spelled that way, so I have a soft spot for the name even if it’s not my style
Taylor- similar to Mackenzie except I am tired of it, and it seems a tad dated

I don’t know if you want new ideas but some suggestions I thought of while looking over the list: Brynn, Saige, Auden, Tegan, Rylan, Emery, Everly, and Adalyn.

Also just have to add that Avery Aurora is PERFECTION!

Thanks so much everyone!! I’m loving the suggestions of [name_u]Brighton[/name_u], [name_f]Cadence[/name_f]/[name_f]Kaydence[/name_f], Kennie (maybe a nn for [name_f]McKenna[/name_f] or [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u]??), [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] (!!), and [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f]!

Also, a side note;

[name_u]Addison[/name_u] WAS on our list of names we couldn’t use due to family members, however, S/O changed his mind on that one LOL!, also, we opted for the [name_u]Reagan[/name_u] spelling as it’s the most popular, (#98 in the US) and it looks a little bit cleaner next to our surname, but I do totally see the presidential/political issue there.

Thanks everyone!
