Thoughts on my list. Any additional suggestions?

Girls
Eleanor Ann*
Xanthe Jane*
Imogen
Cara
Clodagh
Catherine*

Boys
Alfie Ivan*
Patrick*
Claude
Arlo
Arthur
James*
George
Vaughn

Starred names are honour names.

My problem is lots of names I like are really popular and as a teacher that puts me off using them as a first name- lots of names in this list fall into this category (Arthur, George, Arlo etc).

Thoughts? Ones you particularly like? Any other names that come to mind I could add to my list? I’m looking for more “pretty” girls names to add to the list to round out my most likely sibsets.
Thank you

hi there! i’ve ranked your lists from personal favourite-least favourite, and have added some suggestions that have a similar feel, but perhaps aren’t as popular. i also included some ideas based on the honour names, just for fun :relaxed:

girls rankings
  1. xanthe jane: so pretty!
  2. eleanor ann
  3. cara
  4. imogen
  5. clodagh: i haven’t heard of this one before, but it’s interesting! it’s irish, i assume?
  6. catherine: not a fan of it as a first (too dated for my liking), but it would make a sweet honour middle.
boys rankings
  1. claude: i absolutely adore claude, and i doubt it’s too popular amongst school-aged children.
  2. alfie ivan:
  3. vaughn
  4. arlo
  5. james: quite common imo; i prefer it as a middle.
  6. george
  7. arthur: a bit too old-man for me.
  8. patrick

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts-

Girls:

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Ann-I love love love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. It’s smart & feminine & strong & classic & adventurous. I also find the nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] to be adorable. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] feels like a nice combo. Although I think that I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] even more.

[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] Jane-I’m not sure why, but I can’t get into this name. I just don’t like how the ‘X’ looks. There’s nothing wrong w/it.

Imogen-I like this. It’s sleek & smart but kind of quiet. I especially like it for the nn [name_f]Idgie[/name_f].

Cara-I don’t care for this much, as it kind of feels a little dated. Somehow [name_f]Cora[/name_f] feels fresher. I do prefer this to [name_f]Kara[/name_f] though. The ‘C’ is prettier in my opinion.

Clodagh-Is it Clo-duh? I generally really appreciate unique Gaelic-y names, but I can’t get into this one. At least it’s different & interesting though.

Catherine-That’s nice enough. Not super exciting, but a good solid classic name.

Boys:

[name_u]Alfie[/name_u] Ivan-That’s so adorable.

Patrick-I love [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]. It’s strong & handsome & sporty & friendly.

Claude-This is a neat name. Feels smart & kind. And the nn [name_f]Claudie[/name_f] is adorable. It’s simple but hardly ever done.

Arlo-That’s fun & a little quirky. I like it. And I love the nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u].

Arthur-That’s cute too. Old fashioned & lovable.

James-A good solid classic. Not terribly exciting, but a nice name none the less.

George-Same as above.

Vaughn-Other Berries seem to like this, but I can’t get on board. I just don’t like the look or sound for some reason.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Thanks for the feedback. The support for some of my favourites gives me more confidence in mentioning them to my husband again to see if he’ll get on board when he hears them more often!

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_m]Alastair[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] are ones I’m debating whether they make it onto the list or not- some have been used by family connections so not 100% sure whether that puts me off altogether or not. I also love [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] but that one is definitely off the table due to a close friend using it.
