Thoughts on my list & suggestions please

My hubby & I are currently ttc and have been thinking about possible names for our future child. We’d love some comments on the names we have on the list, ideas for middle names and some suggestions. We are in the UK so the name trends are slightly different here to the US. We are fairly open to ideas. We want unique names but nothing too out there. We both tend to like older names rather than modern ones, but not classics like [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]. I like some nature names but I’m not sure that DH will. I have a long Irish heritage so would like to honour that in some way. Middle names dervived from [name]Mary[/name] are a family tradition on my side but not one I have to stick to, on DHs side, the name [name]William[/name] has always been passed down to the 1st son, but my mother in law refused to do this (surname is [name]Willis[/name] so you can see her point). I’m finding getting names to flow with my surname is difficult so help with this is much appreciated.

This is my list

GIRLS

[name]Aoife[/name] - (EE-fa) I love this irish name, dh is worried about the pronunciation and spelling problems. My only concern is that it’d get mixed up with all the [name]Eva[/name]/[name]Ava[/name]/[name]Eve[/name]'s.

[name]April[/name]

[name]Fleur[/name] - dh thinks its too french

[name]Freya[/name] - we both love this but its rising in popularity here every year, currently about no.16

[name]Isolde[/name] - (ih-zohl-duh) this is my current fave but I do have concerns over the pronunciation and is it just a bit too unique?

[name]Lark[/name] - not sure this sounds good with ln

[name]Lydia[/name]

[name]Orla[/name] - dh doesn’t like this

[name]Rosa[/name]

Róisín/Roisin (ro-sheen) another pretty Irish name

[name]Willow[/name] - I adore this but [name]Willow[/name] [name]Willis[/name] seems cruel to the child

[name]Wren[/name] - not sure this goes with ln either

BOYS

[name]August[/name]

[name]Chaucer[/name]

[name]Elijah[/name] - definitely our fave

[name]Fraser[/name] - I love this, i think [name]Fraser[/name] [name]Gray[/name] would be a gorgeous names for a little boy and a grown man

[name]Gray[/name] - mn

[name]Jonah[/name] - I’m not that keen on this but dh likes it

[name]Jude[/name] - have loved this name since reading [name]Jude[/name] the Obscure, dh doesn’t love it thought

[name]Noah[/name] - like [name]Freya[/name] this is very popular in the UK

[name]Patrick[/name] - nice Irish connection but we hate nn [name]Pat[/name] or [name]Rick[/name] so mn only for this

[name]Reuben[/name]

Oh I missed out [name]Isla[/name] from this list.

Anyone have any opinions on the list? Ideas for middles?

GIRLS

[name]Aoife[/name] - (EE-fa) I love this name, too,but worry about using it for all the reasons you said…when pronounced, it sounds a lot like [name]Eva[/name] or [name]Ava[/name] and when spelled, people might get confused. [name]Aoife[/name] [name]Marie[/name] would be pretty, though

[name]April[/name] - not my favorite, but this is nice.

[name]Fleur[/name] - nms really, but could be really nice.

[name]Freya[/name]- definitely popular, but still a lovely name.

[name]Isolde[/name] - (ih-zohl-duh) - I love this name…I guess it depends on how you feel about correcting pronunciation?

[name]Lark[/name] - I would give a longer middle name to this… [name]Lark[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Lark[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Lark[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]?

[name]Lydia[/name] - love this name, so classic and pretty

[name]Orla[/name] - this is a really accessibly Irish name, I like it a lot… but if your husband doesn’t, then it should probably go.

[name]Rosa[/name] - I prefer [name]Rose[/name]. Or [name]Rosalind[/name]?

Róisín/[name]Roisin[/name] (ro-sheen) - really pretty!

[name]Willow[/name] - I hate alliterative names, so I wouldn’t use this

[name]Wren[/name] - ditto

[name]Isla[/name] - also really popular, but still pretty!

BOYS

[name]August[/name] - love this! one of my favorite names. [name]August[/name] [name]Edward[/name], [name]August[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]August[/name] [name]James[/name], [name]August[/name] [name]Gray[/name]?

[name]Chaucer[/name] - nice, but one of those names with a big reputation

[name]Elijah[/name] - love this one ([name]Elijah[/name] [name]Gray[/name] sounds nice)

[name]Fraser[/name] - this is lovely- I adore [name]Fraser[/name] [name]Gray[/name], that sounds so nice

[name]Gray[/name] - love this as a middle name, it works with so many things!

[name]Jonah[/name] - what about [name]Jonas[/name] instead? or [name]Micah[/name] or [name]Asa[/name]?

[name]Jude[/name] - again- if your husband doesn’t like it, it should go- what about [name]Rhys[/name] or [name]Eli[/name]?

[name]Noah[/name] -popular, but very classic and beautiful anyway ([name]Noah[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] sounds nice)

[name]Patrick[/name] - this would make a lovely mn! I agree, hate the nns that come from this name.

[name]Reuben[/name]- I’ve never liked this name that much…I don’t know why

Róisín/[name]Roisin[/name] - my fav of your girls names

[name]Chaucer[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] IT. I wish my husband would let me name our kids after literary masters!

[name]Elijah[/name] - my fav. boy name, I think it has such special meaning.

[name]Jonah[/name] - I like this as well but [name]Elijah[/name] more

[name]Noah[/name] - I love it but its getting overused sadly :frowning:

[name]Reuben[/name] - I know 4 [name]Reuben[/name]'s, its lovely, but overused in my world

Hmm, well, I confess that I would start by knocking off the ones that either you or your partner doesn’t really like. Since you have so many great options, I think it’d be best to work with the ones you’re both on board with. So I took out [name]Fleur[/name], [name]Orla[/name], [name]Jonah[/name], and [name]Jude[/name].

GIRLS
[name]Aoife[/name] (EE-fa) - I see both of your concerns, and rather agree with you both. Pretty name, but seems like it has a lot of “buts.”
[name]April[/name] - I find it a tad dated and I don’t care for the “-ril [name]Wil[/name]” sounds together…
[name]Freya[/name] - Too bad about the popularity… Doesn’t have to be a deal-breaker if you love it, though.
[name]Isolde[/name] - I mostly got the pronunciation right (missed the “duh” on the end), but she always seemed like such a sad, tragic figure… That said, people are using [name]Ophelia[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name], so why not [name]Isolde[/name]?
[name]Lark[/name] - I don’t mind [name]Lark[/name] [name]Willis[/name], esp. with a longer middle. You might also consider [name]Larkin[/name], nn [name]Lark[/name].
[name]Lydia[/name] - [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Willis[/name] is [name]LOVELY[/name].
[name]Rosa[/name] - I prefer [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], etc. to [name]Rosa[/name].
Róisín/[name]Roisin[/name] - Great!
[name]Willow[/name] - [name]Willow[/name] [name]Willis[/name] is a definite no-go in my book. Sorry.
[name]Wren[/name] - [name]Wren[/name] [name]Willis[/name] is alright, but it makes me want to say [name]Ren[/name] Rillis or Wen [name]Willis[/name]…
[name]Isla[/name] - [name]Isla[/name] [name]Willis[/name] is gorgeous! [name]How[/name] does [name]Isla[/name]'s popularity compare to [name]Freya[/name]'s?

BOYS
[name]August[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the name, but I don’t like the flow with the last name
[name]Chaucer[/name] - I agree with the pp. Big name. But I don’t mind it… [name]Kinda[/name] like it!
[name]Elijah[/name] - “definitely our fave” - then this sounds like a winner!
[name]Fraser[/name] - [name]Fraser[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is fabulous!
[name]Gray[/name] - [name]Love[/name] in any capacity
[name]Noah[/name] - Again, if popularity bugs you, maybe just scratch this one off…
[name]Patrick[/name] - There was another thread recently where people talked about how [name]Patrick[/name] doesn’t always get a nickname today (or could have an alternative one). Still, makes a great middle
[name]Reuben[/name] - I always think of the sandwich…

Of these options, I like the following names/combos best:
[name]Isolde[/name] [name]Marian[/name] [name]Willis[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Molly[/name] [name]Willis[/name]
[name]Lark[/name] [name]Magdalen[/name] [name]Willis[/name]
[name]Roisin[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Willis[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Willis[/name] (perhaps [name]Maeve[/name] is close enough to honor [name]Mary[/name]?)
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Gray[/name] [name]Willis[/name]
[name]Fraser[/name] [name]Gray[/name] [name]Willis[/name]
[name]Chaucer[/name] [name]Gray[/name] [name]Willis[/name]

For girls, I might also suggest [name]Greta[/name] (similar vibe to [name]Freya[/name]).

Thanks. I think you are right that [name]Jonah[/name] & [name]Jude[/name] need to go, aswell as [name]Fleur[/name] & [name]Willow[/name]. My fave girls are [name]Aoife[/name], [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Roisin[/name] & [name]Lydia[/name]. Fave boys are [name]Fraser[/name] & [name]Elijah[/name], haven’t ran Chaucher past fb yet so will have to wait on that one.

So what do you think of

[name]Aoife[/name] [name]Lark[/name]
[name]Aoife[/name] [name]Marie[/name] (my middle name too)
[name]Isolde[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Lark[/name] (I don’t like alliterative names really but this sounds so sweet!)
[name]Roisin[/name] [name]Maria[/name]
[name]Roisin[/name] [name]Isla[/name]

[name]Fraser[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Fraser[/name] [name]August[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]

Or any better ideas? I tend to like shorter names for middles

Ellenellie - I love [name]Rosalie[/name] too & [name]Isolde[/name] can be pronounced without the ‘duh’ I believe

[name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Mae[/name]?

[name]Aoife[/name] [name]Lark[/name]
[name]Aoife[/name] [name]Marie[/name] - I can’t decide which mn I prefer with this one…I kind of like [name]Marie[/name] better, but it is much more traditional, so there is something nice about [name]Lark[/name], too.
[name]Isolde[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - love this combination! so pretty.
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Lark[/name] - this does sound sweet, and I kind of like it…maybe more than [name]Maeve[/name]?
[name]Roisin[/name] [name]Maria[/name] - maybe this more than with [name]Isla[/name]? I don’t know.
[name]Roisin[/name] [name]Isla[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] - so adorable!

[name]Fraser[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Fraser[/name] [name]August[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]

I like both [name]Fraser[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name] best with [name]Gray[/name]. I think it is such a lovely mn!

Not loving any of the middles with [name]Roisin[/name], any suggestions? As you can tell I like quite whimsical, fairly like names for girls
