Thoughts on my most recent name-crushes?

Here they are…

[name]Minna[/name] - is it enough on its own, or does it need a long-form?
[name]Lovett[/name] - People use [name]Love[/name] as an mn, why not [name]Lovett[/name] as an fn?
[name]Juniper[/name] - I’d probably use the nn [name]Junie[/name], [name]Perry[/name] or [name]Berry[/name] (my personal favourite)
[name]Becca[/name] - does it need a long form? Is it too dated?
[name]Effie[/name] - long forms?
[name]Indigo[/name] - too weird?
[name]Elise[/name] - would [name]Elise[/name] nn [name]Effie[/name] be too much of a stretch?
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - is [name]Lily[/name] too popular?
[name]Clare[/name] - would the spelling be irritating?

I’ve recently fallen in love with these nine names, but I need berry opinions! Thoughts?

[name]Love[/name] [name]Effie[/name] and [name]Elise[/name] a lot! I was sooooooooo in love with [name]Juniper[/name] when I was in high school (I read the [name]Juniper[/name] Game and was all fan crushing) and I adore the nn [name]Berry[/name] for it!!! I also like [name]Liliana[/name] (don’t let popularity ruin a name for you) and I like [name]Clare[/name], but I MUCH prefer [name]Claire[/name] as a spelling.

For [name]Minna[/name] I’m not sure if it’s pronounced more like [name]Minnie[/name] or [name]Mina[/name] (MEE-[name]Nuh[/name]), but if it’s like [name]Mina[/name] then I love it and think it should be spelled with one N as not to confused. If it’s the [name]Minnie[/name] sound then I’m not really a fan.

Neutral on [name]Becca[/name] and on it’s proper [name]Rebecca[/name]. It’s a fine name, just not really my style. Not loving [name]Indigo[/name] or [name]Lovett[/name] compared to the others on this list!

[name]Minna[/name] - Seems a little nicknamey and childish
[name]Lovett[/name] -I like it but it seems masculine, I would love it for boy
[name]Juniper[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Perry[/name] would completely ruin the whole name though!
[name]Becca[/name] - Definitely dated and nowhere near a comeback
[name]Effie[/name] - I think it needs a long form but it is really cute. I think it works well for [name]Josephine[/name] or [name]Euphemia[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name] - Definite GP for me, I just love it!
[name]Elise[/name] - Yes I think it would be a definite stretch, I don’t see how it would work at all really. [name]Elise[/name] has always seemed stuffy and mean to me.
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - I could care less about popularity and this is to great a name to pass up
[name]Clare[/name] - This is the original spelling so it works, she might have to correct people on it though.

[name]Minna[/name] - interesting but a bit of a clipped sound, [name]Minnie[/name] is softer
[name]Lovett[/name] - not keen on surnames as first names
[name]Juniper[/name] - really don’t like this - sorry to all the berryfans out there!
[name]Becca[/name] - fine, but not intriguing - prefer the [name]Rebekah[/name] spelling of longer name
[name]Effie[/name] - love this! [name]Long[/name] form is [name]Euphemia[/name] (according to my babyname books)
[name]Indigo[/name] - I like this a lot too, beautiful colour, nice sounds, and I’m a sucker for the letter i (and o, and n, d, g… ah, I see why I like it!)
[name]Elise[/name] - OK
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - OK, prefer it to [name]Elise[/name], and it’s nice to have both a long and short version
[name]Clare[/name] - I like the name, and this spelling. Wouldn’t worry about the spelling being an issue. [name]Both[/name] my first name and surname have 2 different spellings, so I always have to say ‘with/without …’ but it’s not a big prob. In fact, it makes me like my name more somehow… so protective of ‘my’ spelling!

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Minna[/name], and would recommend [name]Aminta[/name] if you wanted a longer form.

Instead of [name]Lovett[/name], I would suggest [name]Lovina[/name] or Lovelia.

[name]Becca[/name] is my little sister, short for [name]Rebecca[/name]. I can’t picture it standing alone as a name, and in my head she’s still a baby, so in my head it’s still current.

I like [name]Effie[/name], but prefer [name]Eppie[/name] or [name]Essie[/name].

[name]Minna[/name] - I love it, I prefer the [name]Mina[/name] spelling and I think it can stand on it’s own. My fiance’s niece’s name is [name]Nina[/name].
[name]Lovett[/name] - I’m not a fan of it
[name]Juniper[/name] - [name]Junie[/name] is cute, I prefer the name [name]June[/name] to [name]Juniper[/name].
[name]Becca[/name] - I knew a couple of [name]Becca[/name]'s in high school, I think it can stand on it’s own
[name]Effie[/name] - This is actually my aunt’s name, so I think it can stand on it’s own. The only long form that shortens to [name]Effie[/name] that I know of is [name]Euphemia[/name].
[name]Indigo[/name] - I think it’s odd
[name]Elise[/name] - If you want [name]Effie[/name], [name]Elise[/name] wouldn’t work, read above
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - It’s popular, but I don’t think popularity should be a reason why you don’t choose a name. You should like the name and that is all that should matter.
[name]Clare[/name] - My mom spells her name this way… I don’t see how it’s irritating…

[name]Minna[/name] - I like [name]Minnie[/name] or [name]Mina[/name] (meen-a). [name]Minna[/name] feels a little too clipped. Could be a sweet nickname for [name]Minerva[/name] or [name]Melinda[/name] though.
[name]Lovett[/name] - I hear “[name]Love[/name] it!” too strongly. Would prefer just plain [name]Love[/name] or [name]Love[/name] as the second half of a double barrel.
[name]Juniper[/name] - I like it and [name]Junie[/name] is an adorable nn.
[name]Becca[/name] - Prefer [name]Rebecca[/name] nn [name]Becca[/name]
[name]Effie[/name] - NN only, but cute.
[name]Indigo[/name] - I dont think its too weird at all.
[name]Elise[/name] - I love [name]Elise[/name]
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - [name]Lily[/name] is popular in her many variations, but [name]Liliana[/name] is a gorgeous classic name.
[name]Clare[/name] - I prefer this spelling to [name]Claire[/name]

[name]Minna[/name] - too cutesy for me. It’s sort of a mix of [name]Minerva[/name] and the HG’s [name]Cinna[/name]… I think [name]Minerva[/name] nn [name]Minna[/name] is cute, though.
[name]Lovett[/name] - I agree with @dillonsfan01–I much prefer this on a boy. I’ve only ever heard it on boys, actually. I think it’s quite cool for a boy, although I like [name]Everett[/name], [name]Beckett[/name], [name]Abbott[/name], Truett, [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Emmett[/name], [name]Bennett[/name], etc. more.
[name]Juniper[/name] - I absolutely love [name]Juniper[/name]! But I agree, I definitely wouldn’t use [name]Perry[/name]. That’s just me, though.
[name]Becca[/name] - I don’t find it dated at all. I mean, sure it was popular in our day, but [name]Rebecca[/name] is timeless, and I feel like [name]Becca[/name] is, too. I’m biased, of course, since my little sister is [name]Rebecca[/name] nn [name]Becca[/name], but I love it. It’s a great option for these days, too, and the nn [name]Becca[/name] is too sweet. I definitely wouldn’t use just [name]Becca[/name], though.
[name]Effie[/name] - I agree, it needs a longer name. You could really do any F name, any name with the initials [name]FE[/name] or EF, or even [name]Euphemia[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], etc. I’ve heard it as a nn for all of those. Pretty much anything with an “F” sound in it, I would think.
[name]Indigo[/name] - eh. I can see its appeal but I don’t love it.
[name]Elise[/name] - I absolutely love [name]Elise[/name], but I can’t see [name]Effie[/name] as a nn for it, unless the MN began with an “F”. Something like [name]Elise[/name] [name]Fiona[/name] or [name]Elise[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], nn [name]Effie[/name], would completely work.
[name]Liliana[/name] - love it! A [name]Lily[/name] name will for sure be on my list, and it’s pretty much tied between [name]Liliana[/name] and [name]Lillian[/name] for me. I love the princessy feel of [name]Liliana[/name].
[name]Clare[/name] - I like [name]Claire[/name] more than [name]Clare[/name], and I like [name]Clara[/name] more than that, so this is really a no for me, sorry. I do see its appeal, though, and I do find it quite appealing at times. I still prefer [name]Clara[/name] and the [name]Claire[/name] spelling, though, personally.

[name]Juniper[/name], [name]Becca[/name], and [name]Liliana[/name] are my favorites!

Good luck!

  1. [name]Minna[/name] - is it enough on its own, or does it need a long-form?
I think it’s fine on its own.

  2. [name]Lovett[/name] - People use [name]Love[/name] as an mn, why not [name]Lovett[/name] as an fn?
I think it’s best in the middle spot (and if [name]Lovett[/name] is a family name). I don’t like [name]Love[/name] as a first or middle name.

[name]Juniper[/name] - I’d probably use the nn [name]Junie[/name], [name]Perry[/name] or [name]Berry[/name] (my personal favourite)
I know this is a big favorite on here, but I can’t get into it.

[name]Becca[/name] - does it need a long form? Is it too dated?
I think it’s best as a short form of [name]Rebecca[/name]. I don’t think it’s particularly dated.

[name]Effie[/name] - long forms?
ha… my grandmother’s name. I think it’s short for [name]Euphemia[/name]. Women of Greek heritage often use it as a nickname for Evdokia.
[name]Indigo[/name] - there is something about this name that makes me thinik “trying too hard to be cool.” But it really isn’t all that weird.
[name]Elise[/name] - would [name]Elise[/name] nn [name]Effie[/name] be too much of a stretch? Personally I prefer nicknames that relate more directly to the given name… but sure, you could use it. My grandother [name]Effie[/name]'s birth certificate said [name]Ella[/name]. I think [name]Elise[/name] is a pretty name and I would not use a nickname for it at all.
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - is [name]Lily[/name] too popular? I love [name]Liliana[/name] and [name]Lily[/name]. Too popular is subjective. For some it means top 10, for others it means they won’t use a name in the top 1000. But yes, if you think of all the girls named [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Lillie[/name], and the girls named [name]Liliana[/name] in its various spellings, and [name]Lillian[/name] who are nicknamed [name]Lily[/name], there are a lot of girls called [name]Lily[/name]. I’d still use it though.
[name]Clare[/name] - I don’t think the spelling is irritating although I like [name]Claire[/name] better.

[name]Minna[/name] - Sounds a little made up (is it?), I’d try [name]Minuet[/name].
[name]Lovett[/name] - Hm, seems kinda masculine
[name]Juniper[/name] - Very cool!
[name]Becca[/name] - I don’t like [name]Becca[/name]. It just sounds quite bland and unappealing.
[name]Effie[/name] - Not really my style, but long forms: [name]Effa[/name], [name]Genoveffa[/name], [name]Effemy[/name], [name]Estefania[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name] - Super cool! I love nickname [name]Indie[/name].
[name]Elise[/name] - [name]Elise[/name] is really pretty, and no, I think [name]Elise[/name] nn [name]Effie[/name] is fine.
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - [name]Lily[/name] is popular but for a good reason! [name]One[/name] of my favorites
[name]Clare[/name] - Super pretty! Spelling is fine

[name]Minna[/name] - Definitely long enough, definitely usable! I really really love [name]Minna[/name]. [name]Emma[/name], [name]Lila[/name], [name]Bella[/name], [name]Hannah[/name] are used alone, aren’t they?
[name]Lovett[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t like. Looks silly to me.
[name]Juniper[/name] - Wouldn’t use [name]Berry[/name] or [name]Perry[/name], but I love [name]Junie[/name]; or [name]June[/name]/[name]Juno[/name] even.
[name]Becca[/name] - Really dislike. In [name]England[/name] its seen as dated and a bit ‘Chav’-y.
[name]Effie[/name] - I see the appeal, but it’s not something I love. It’s OK. I love [name]Ophelia[/name] if you wanted a longer form.
[name]Indigo[/name] - Not too weird! Like it.
[name]Elise[/name] - [name]Effie[/name] couldn’t be used, in my opinion. [name]Elsie[/name] is a possibility though?
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - I would never use either, honestly. I like [name]Liliana[/name], but [name]Lily[/name] is too dull for me.
[name]Clare[/name] - I love [name]Clara[/name], but dislike [name]Clare[/name]. Seems too… boring, I suppose.

[name]Minna[/name] - Very cute, but needs a full name, I love the suggestion of [name]Araminta[/name].
[name]Lovett[/name] - I don’t care for it, but you may like [name]Lovisa[/name]. It’s a Swedish form of [name]Louise[/name] / [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name] - [name]Juniper[/name] is cute! I like [name]Juno[/name] as a nickname.
[name]Becca[/name] - Yes, ts needs a full name. I’ve been loving [name]Rebecca[/name] a lot recently. I think it sounds fresh and charming.
[name]Effie[/name] - [name]Euphemia[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Serafina[/name], maybe an F name like [name]Francesca[/name] or [name]Fiona[/name]?
[name]Indigo[/name] - I have a soft spot for this. I’ve always really liked it.
[name]Elise[/name] - nn [name]Effie[/name] is too much of a stretch, yes, but not with an F middle name, catch my drift? [name]Elise[/name] [name]Francesca[/name]?
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - [name]Lily[/name] IS popular, but I still love it to pieces. [name]Liliana[/name] is beautiful, but I prefer other forms like [name]Lilianne[/name] or [name]Lilia[/name].
[name]Clare[/name] - I really dislike this spelling, but I adore [name]Claire[/name].

[name]Minna[/name] - Okay as a nn. [name]Wilhelmina[/name] comes to mind.
[name]Lovett[/name] - Not my style, and would have teasing potential. It sounds like “love it.”
[name]Juniper[/name] - Cute on it’s own or with nn [name]June[/name].
[name]Becca[/name] - Nice nickname for [name]Rebecca[/name]. I don’t see [name]Rebecca[/name] as dated at all. Its popularity peaked in the mid-1970s, but it has always been in the top 200, and has a very long, solid history. After all, it’s Biblical; it’s literary, and it’s been used in [name]America[/name] since the Pilgrims. It did not peak in popularity until I was a teenager, and I hardly knew anyone with the name when I was growing up… just a few Beckys or Beccas in the school. It felt underused to me. I consider it an elegant classic, and loved it enough to choose it for my daughter.
[name]Effie[/name] - Okay as a nickname, such as for [name]Josephine[/name].
[name]Indigo[/name] - Cute name, especially nice as a unique middle name.
[name]Elise[/name] - I love this name!
[name]Liliana[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name] - Okay. I prefer [name]Liliana[/name] over [name]Lily[/name].
[name]Clare[/name] - Prefer the spelling [name]Claire[/name], which is high on my list of favorite names.
