Thoughts on my new girls list?

I’m just wondering what you think on my new girls list (ie. the names I would actually consider using if I happened to be expecting… which I’m not). In no particular order:

[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Pippa[/name]
(I really really want to love [name]Philippa[/name] or [name]Penelope[/name], but I don’t. And who wants a name that their mother doesn’t like, and used just for the nickname?)
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Winona[/name] ([name]Nona[/name]/[name]Winn[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name])
[name]Margo[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name] ([name]Sosie[/name]/[name]Sunny[/name]/[name]Susie[/name])
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mila[/name]/[name]May[/name]/[name]Lula[/name])
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] (nn other than [name]Tilly[/name] or [name]Mattie[/name]?)

Also, I’m incredibly close to adding [name]Tallulah[/name] which I just adore… but I find it a little bit too cutesy and modern for my style. What do you think?

The majority are long standing names from my short lists, however a few ([name]Winona[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Violet[/name]) have returned from a while off my list… and [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Mabel[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] are completely new.

There are also a bunch that I love just as much but wouldn’t use for various reasons ([name]Priya[/name], [name]Agnes[/name], [name]Annika[/name], [name]Nancy[/name], [name]Juno[/name], [name]Ana[/name], [name]Amabel[/name], [name]Kitty[/name])

So yeah, what are your general opinions and associations? Are there any you hate? [name]Love[/name]? Thanks

([name]EDIT[/name]: I forgot to say, the nicknames are just thoughts/ideas, and would never be exclusive. I disagree on planning to nickname a baby before it’s even born - but I have an annoying habit of shortening names, even if I don’t like what I’m shortening them to)

[name]Violet[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], and [name]Eliza[/name] are my favorites on your list…love [name]Clara[/name] but not sure if it’s as popular as I think it may be.

[name]Hi[/name] Oliviasarah, here are my thoughts on your girls list. Regards, [name]Mischa[/name].
[name]Mabel[/name] - I’ve grown to love this vintage name since joining Nameberry.
[name]Pippa[/name] - So you don’t like the longer names of [name]Philippa[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name]. That’s a shame! Maybe when you’re ready to have children you will! [name]Pippa[/name] is spunky and full of energy but for me it’s just a cute nn for a little girl. I can’t seem take a grown woman named [name]Pippa[/name] very seriously at all :frowning:
[name]Clara[/name] - A lovely vintage classic. I love [name]Claire[/name] too!
[name]Alice[/name] - This is my middle name so I may be biased! [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] would be perfect sisters!
[name]Violet[/name] - One of my favourite flower names for girls. You could have three daughters named [name]Alice[/name], [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] (swoon worthy)!
[name]Winona[/name] ([name]Nona[/name]/[name]Winn[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name]) - Pretty name but the association with Ms [name]Ryder[/name] is still very strong. There is also country singer [name]Wynonna[/name] [name]Judd[/name] to contend with but she may be more well known in [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name] than in [name]England[/name].
[name]Margo[/name] - Simple but strong. I prefer the French [name]Margot[/name] spelling.
[name]Susannah[/name] ([name]Sosie[/name]/[name]Sunny[/name]/[name]Susie[/name]) - I love this lovely name from the Bible. [name]Sunny[/name] would be an adorable nickname and I like [name]Suki[/name] and [name]Sanna[/name] too!
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mila[/name]/[name]May[/name]/[name]Lula[/name]) - Very pretty but I’m not sure about your three nn’s. I would be more inclined to have [name]Millie[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Amy[/name] or [name]Lia[/name] as nn options.
[name]Eliza[/name] - Spunky and full of life with a great literary association.
[name]Matilda[/name] (nn other than [name]Tilly[/name] or [name]Mattie[/name]?) - I love this vintage gem. I do like [name]Tilly[/name] but you could also use [name]Tilda[/name] like the actress [name]Tilda[/name] Swinton.

Of all the names you picked, I think [name]Gretchen[/name] was my favorite. Yes, go with [name]Gretchen[/name] when you finally have a child.

I like [name]Mabel[/name] the best from your list. I like the spelling [name]Maybelle[/name] better though, I think it’s more attractive, although it seems most other people like the shorter spelling for these types of names.

[name]Mabel[/name] - For me this is the perfect name. Everyone will pronounce it right, recognise it, but it would surprise people to see it on a child. This is the sort of name which can change peoples opinions once they hear it on a baby/little girl. Such a pleasant sound, too. [name]May[/name], people love. [name]Belle[/name], people love. Yet [name]Mabel[/name] is something a bit fresher!
[name]Pippa[/name]- Like this, but I feel whilst its very cute on a child, it doesn’t necessarily sound as cool on an adult, especially after middle age.
[name]Clara[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Clara[/name], with the UK pronunciation which is ideal imo. Clah-ra This to me is kind of vintage crisp Victorian crossed with a bit of spunk.
[name]Alice[/name]- Like it but find it a bit conventional and over-used over here.
[name]Violet[/name]- Like it a lot but it is taking such a popularity hit that I think it will date a bit. Not my favourite of your ideas, but a lovely one.
[name]Winona[/name] ([name]Nona[/name]/[name]Winn[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name])- I love [name]Winona[/name]. The ‘[name]Win[/name]’ sound is so attractive imo and the nicknames are all lovely. It has a mysterious, bewitching feel to it, kind of like [name]Hermione[/name] and [name]Dahlia[/name] do for me, but is infinitely more wearable.
[name]Margo[/name] [name]Love[/name] [name]Margo[/name]. It is slightly nicknamey, and I do prefer the [name]Margot[/name] spelling which feels more ‘finished’ to me. Nothing more to add, just love it!
[name]Susannah[/name] ([name]Sosie[/name]/[name]Sunny[/name]/[name]Susie[/name])- I like [name]Susannah[/name], but I don’t think it’s very memorable somehow. I wouldn’t be caught by noticing a little [name]Susannah[/name] running about, whilst I would be enthused about the idea of a little [name]Margo[/name]!
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mila[/name]/[name]May[/name]/[name]Lula[/name])- So popular. [name]Just[/name] doesn’t excite me at all.
[name]Eliza[/name]- Like it a lot. Same feel as [name]Mabel[/name] to me, but I prefer the former for some reason. [name]Just[/name] the sound I think.
[name]Matilda[/name] (nn other than [name]Tilly[/name] or [name]Mattie[/name]?)- [name]Don[/name]'t get the hype about [name]Matilda[/name]. [name]Tilda[/name] and [name]Hilda[/name] are equally unappealing suffixes to me.

There’s my two cents. Very good list though, you can’t go too wrong with these anyway. Haha
