[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys, thanks for the advice on my last thread. The only “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” name we could agree on was [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] but we aren’t so sure about it anymore. We have a few more ideas that I’d like to get outside feedback on:
[name_u]Allison[/name_u]/[name_f]Alison[/name_f] “[name_u]Allie[/name_u]” - my personal favourite (also which spelling do you prefer? No Ys please!)
[name_u]Addison[/name_u] “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]” -I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] but DH isn’t convinced. Also is it getting too popular?
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] “[name_f]Emmie[/name_f]” - DH prefers this. I like it but it’s not my first choice.
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] “[name_f]Lily[/name_f]” - [name_m]Both[/name_m] of us love this but is it too similar to [name_f]Avia[/name_f]?
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] - one of my all time favourites but DH doesn’t like colour names (which also killed the chances of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] )
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any advice or opinions on these names?
Middle name will most likely be [name_f]Marie[/name_f] to honour my grandmother.
I think [name_u]Allison[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] would be quite pretty. I think [name_u]Allison[/name_u] has been around the longest and this longevity goes a long way in determining the staying power of a name. It’s built to last. The only problem is that the name shares an initial with [name_f]Avia[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is too similar to [name_f]Avia[/name_f]. I don’t mind [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] with [name_f]Avia[/name_f] because it has a different sound. [name_u]Addison[/name_u] and [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] are too boyish with a sister named [name_f]Avia[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] (you can get [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for the middle syllable)?
Hmm…
My thoughts on the names:
[name_u]Allison[/name_u]/[name_f]Alison[/name_f] - this name is very sweet, she has a humble sound, and looks very wholesome. I prefer the [name_f]Alison[/name_f] spelling it just feels cleaner and looks more put-together. I like both the [name_u]Allie[/name_u] nickname as well as [name_u]Ali[/name_u] however [name_u]Ali[/name_u] does feel slightly masculine due to the name people very common for males in [name_f]Asian[/name_f] communities. So if you don’t mind the masculine association I’d say [name_u]Ali[/name_u] is my personal favourite out of the nickname spellings.
[name_u]Addison[/name_u] - Not attractive. I picture it as a boy’s name but I dislike it. [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is a cute nickname but there are so many lovely [name_f]Addie[/name_f] names out there which you could use like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], and [name_f]Adelisa[/name_f].
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] - For me this name feels really masculine. I know an adorable little boy named [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]; he’s black British with gorgeous hair and dark eyes. He’s so cute and lovely so of course I also remember [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] with him thus I never associated with being a girl. I do love the [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] nickname for example [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] etc.
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - I love this name, she’s sweet, demure, elegant, classy, and has a gorgeous floral beat. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] has such a spunky vibe and looks effortless. I also love the ‘[name_f]Lily[/name_f]’ nickname for [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] feels like a sweet fall back nickname. I also love the [name_f]Lia[/name_f] nickname as well for a more unusual kick. But yes she is similar to [name_f]Avia[/name_f].
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] - This name is very sweet and has a lovely sound. She’s also associated with the colour, but also the name [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] is association with [name_f]Siena[/name_f] the Tuscanian city which is lovely. To avoid the colour connotation you could use [name_f]Siena[/name_f].
Out of these names my favourites are [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], and [name_f]Alison[/name_f]. The best name that works with [name_f]Avia[/name_f] though is [name_f]Alison[/name_f] but this could be limiting due to having two ‘A’ names. My favourite suggestion would be [name_f]Siena[/name_f]?
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is my favourite of those names, but it is very similar to [name_f]Avia[/name_f]. Why not just pretty simple [name_f]Lily[/name_f]? I also like [name_f]Alison[/name_f], with that spelling. Nn I’d spell [name_f]Aly[/name_f] like Alianne from the Tortall books [name_u]Addison[/name_u] I don’t like, reminds me of adders. I love [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] but not [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous, but ‘burnt sienna’ is my first association with it.
The only one I like is [name_f]Sienna[/name_f]. It has such a pretty sound. I didn’t know it was a color. I think more of the mini van as an association. I’m guessing [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is pronounced lil-e-a so I think [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] sounds much better. The name [name_u]Addison[/name_u] has always annoyed me for some reason.
[name_u]Allison[/name_u]- It’s nice but it brings me back to people more my age, although [name_u]Ali[/name_u]/[name_u]Allie[/name_u] is very popular right now
[name_u]Addison[/name_u]- Know many with this name. I like it as a place name and named my male dog this.
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]- [name_f]Do[/name_f] not like
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]- Beautiful, but much like your daughters name. What about [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]- Pretty sound, but very trendy where I live
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]- [name_f]Love[/name_f] it
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] ( not listed but I think this is the best match with your daughter’s name!)
My favorites are [name_u]Allison[/name_u] and [name_f]Sienna[/name_f]. I also like [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and love the nn [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] but it might be a little too mismatched with [name_f]Avia[/name_f] for my liking. [name_u]Allison[/name_u] is beautiful, a classic in my opinion, but I hate how all [name_u]Allison[/name_u]'s lose the full name to the less impressive [name_u]Allie[/name_u]! It’s cute as a nn I suppose, but if I were to name my daughter [name_u]Allison[/name_u] I know I’d want her to go by her full name as much as possible (prefer the two Ls by the way). [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] is a great match with [name_f]Avia[/name_f] I think. Kudos to your husband for even knowing that it was a color name! Mine certainly would not have. If you can convince him though, I really don’t think most people think of the color. Like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], the name seems to be pretty well separated from the word. [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is beautiful, and gets my overall vote!
[name_u]Allison[/name_u]/[name_f]Alison[/name_f] “[name_u]Allie[/name_u]” - This name is lovely, I prefer the [name_u]Allison[/name_u] spelling as it seems more complete
[name_u]Addison[/name_u] “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]” - I like the nn [name_f]Addie[/name_f], but I don’t like the full name
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] “[name_f]Emmie[/name_f]” - Compared to [name_u]Addison[/name_u] and [name_u]Allison[/name_u] this would be me third choice
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] “[name_f]Lily[/name_f]” - Maybe [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or even [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] to avoid sounding the same as [name_f]Avia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] - [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] is a lovely name, the colour not so much. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Siena[/name_f] to avoid the colour meaning
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] for the nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]/[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] for the nn [name_f]Addie[/name_f]
I’m biased because my name is [name_u]Allison[/name_u] (I like having 2 L’s because it makes my name a lucky 7 letters long), but I always hated being called [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. A lot of close friends called me [name_m]Al[/name_m] in high school and college, and I much preferred that.
[name_u]Addison[/name_u] always sounds like someone with a speech impediment trying to say [name_u]Allison[/name_u].
I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and have thought about it for my own daughter, but it’s very popular these days so it’s lower on my list now.
I think pretty much any name with an “el” is fair game for nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] for example. Also, [name_f]Siena[/name_f] with one n is a city in [name_f]Italy[/name_f]. could persuade him.
