Thoughts on name inventions?

The name Illisiana (ill-lee-sea-awna) randomly popped into my head, but I looked it up and found that it’s not technically a name. What are your thoughts on inventing names for your children? Is this name too out there or odd to use? I just love it for some reason. TIA!

sure! within reason, but that goes for all names. as long as you can make sure there are no bad connections with the idea, why not

illisiana is sounding a tad familiar to me, but i think it’s just words in another language it’s reminding me of, so i’ve no points. it’s familiar enough within english names including -li and -ana, seems like a nice options as far as i can tell.

i’m not against invented names, and they can be very lovely !! however, i’d usually try to keep them similar to a ‘real’ name or word, so they can be linked to a meaning and etymology ! for example, i’d spell illisiana as elysiana: partly because i like the look of ely, and partly because it gives her the lovely meaning “heavenly”, from elysium et. al.

I think if they feel ‘namey’ and flow well, they can be intriguing, distinctive and exciting

Illisiana feels like it could be a name in terms of sound - a bit of Alicia/Elysia/Elissa/Alyssa, a bit of [name_f]Iliana[/name_f], [name_f]Illyria[/name_f], [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f]. I find the Ill beginning looks a bit visually unappealing/confusing :person_shrugging:

This is such a beautiful name! I know an Aliciana, she goes by [name_f]Ally[/name_f]. It seems similar to me!
