Brainstorming names for baby #3 and potentially first girl and am looking for thoughts on the name [name_f]Liv[/name_f].
I like how its simple, classy and somewhat unique.
Also any ideas for a middle name. We have a short, common last name. I have been mulling over [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]… Would love any two and three syllable recommendation especially to balance the short first and last name.
Personally I like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. But I do understand why you’re saying about it being simple and classy. I love how [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] sounds, I dunno if that would be something you would prefer
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] is lovely, and I think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is very smooth and elegant. I would keep in mind that [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is very popular now and that a lot of Olivias are probably called [name_f]Liv[/name_f] at least some of the time, so I expect that a [name_f]Liv[/name_f] would have to be sure to correct people who would assume [name_f]Liv[/name_f] was short for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] is a perfect name to put a big, weighty middle name with if you’re so inclined:
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] (I would seriously love this)
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Theresa[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f]
I know a teenaged girl named [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and it’s stunning on her! I would usually assume that it is short for a longer version, but that’s not a huge issue. I agree that a longer middle name flows best.
I just wanted to say that I love [name_f]Liv[/name_f]! I’ve always thought of [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as simple, classy, and elegant with a little mysterious spunk.
It’s my own nickname and I feel fairly neutral about it. It’s nice and it suits me. However, I do really love [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and can’t help feeling if I was ‘just [name_f]Liv[/name_f]’ I would probably feel a bit hard-done-to.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] for the record the name [name_f]Liv[/name_f], with Scandinavian origins (ie: not coming from [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]) is actually pronounced LEEV. If you’re using it with that origin in mind, it would be weird imo to use the wrong pronunciation.
I think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is really lively and lovely. While it makes a great nickname, I think using it as a shortened form of another name sort of takes away from its simplicity and vivacity. I would be ecstatic to meet a little girl named [name_f]Liv[/name_f], and for a middle name I think long and elegant is definitely the way to go. Previous suggestions of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (though a little V heavy), [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] are wonderful. I would also contribute [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], and [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f].
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] is great – it means “life” in Danish. The fact that it is as short as it is doesn’t really bother me, personally. In Denmark, it’s a name on its own and not a short form of, say, [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] – so I wouldn’t automatically presume it was a nickname. But of course that doesn’t help much if you’re from an English-speaking country.
I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous. Paired with [name_f]Liv[/name_f], however, I think it’s easy to get the two names mooshed together. That might just be me and my foreigners tongue though, haha. Some suggestions:
[name_f]Liv[/name_f] was on my list, but the only problem is how common of a nickname it is for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], meaning it is not really that uncommon, your child may be the only [name_f]Liv[/name_f], but most likely will not be the only child called liv.
I like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] but for me its a scandinavian/nordic name, where I come from it means Life and we say it with a long middle (Liiiv) . I dont think of it as a short for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or anything else, its a name in its own!
I love the name [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. If I have another girl in the future, this is a top pick for me. I love the simplicity of it as well. Classy and simple, sort of mysterious
Thanks all! I just have that feeling about [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. I keep looking for a longer middle but nothing else seems to flow as well to my ear. I suggested it to my husband last night and he’s mulling it over. (He is in love with the name [name_f]Claire[/name_f], so if I can win him over with [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] I know it must be the perfect name!)
