I’ve loved the name [name_u]Roma[/name_u] as a girl name for a long time, and I am now pregnant. Does anyone think that naming her [name_u]Roma[/name_u] will receive coronavirus jokes ([name_f]Rona[/name_f])?

I think the sound is pretty. Doesn’t make me think of covid whatsoever, but it does make me think of gypsies. Probably wouldn’t recommend using it for that reason.

Very cute name! I’ve been thinking about it lately. I don’t think she will receive jokes about her name.
It reminds me of the tomato but it’s kinda cute.

It’s cute. I have a friend(?) named [name_u]Roma[/name_u].
Roma is sweet and cosy!
Unfortunately, my first thought was the Covid nickname [name_f]Rona[/name_f]

Roma is gorgeous! Not badly associated at all, in my opinion.
If your close family/friends are the joking sort then you might get some from them initially but I don’t think it will continue to be a joke during her life. I don’t think other kids will tease her hopefully it’s an issue of the past by then!

It’s always a boy name for me! Cute though, I don’t know if she’ll receive jokes, but the Romas/Romanis, or “Gypsies” are called such, so I wouldn’t use it.

FYI to everybody [name_u]Roma[/name_u] people believe that the G word is a slur! I think of the movie [name_u]Roma[/name_u]! I didn’t even think of [name_f]Rona[/name_f] but I can see how that’s a pun! If people are the joking type maybe but I wouldn’t call it a permanent name tease that’ll stick

My first thought is the [name_u]Roma[/name_u] ethnic group which would make me hesitate on it. Some similar names to consider: [name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_f]Romana[/name_f], [name_u]Romilly[/name_u], [name_f]Romilda[/name_f].

I think it has a beautiful sound but I agree with others that, as the name of a persecuted ethnic group, it feels inappropriate as a baby name to me.
Ramona or [name_u]Romy[/name_u] I love, however

Not at all. The first thing which came to mind was [name_u]Rome[/name_u] in [name_f]Italy[/name_f].
As soon as I read your title I immediately thought of [name_f]Rona[/name_f] and COVID. I feel like [name_u]Roma[/name_u] is a pretty name, but it doesn’t fit well with this time period unfortunately
I didn’t think of ‘rona’ at all actually my first thought was a tomato…
