Thoughts on names Maeve and Neve?

hi girls!

So thinking about adding [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Neve[/name] to my girl list ( along with [name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name]). I usually tend to go for short, sweet, not too popular.

DD is [name]Violet[/name]

[name]Maeve[/name] - we aren’t irish, so think this name
Is still fine to use?? Ok with big sis? Mn [name]Juliet[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name]…or something else

[name]Neve[/name] - like [name]Neve[/name] [name]Campbell[/name] (Nehv). [name]Will[/name] also have pronunciation issues with this but I think it’s worth it. Also sounds ok with big sis? Mn’s [name]Juliet[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name]…possibly

[name]Felicity[/name] - mn [name]Autumn[/name]. Like it a lot, a bit long for me. But stays on the list. Nn [name]CeCe[/name] and Liss

[name]Tessa[/name] - family favorite, top choice. Mn’s [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Madeleine[/name], or [name]Maeve[/name]. [name]Love[/name],

Thanks so much!

[name]Maeve[/name]- I don’t think you have to be Irish to love Irish names. I love this and it sounds particularly nice with [name]Violet[/name].
[name]Neve[/name]- I don’t like this name, it will always have pronunciation issues.
[name]Felicity[/name]- By far my favorite name on your list. It’s so pure and soft, just like [name]Violet[/name]. [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Autumn[/name] is really pretty but so is [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Anne[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].
[name]Tessa[/name]- A bit boring, compared to your other choices, [name]Tessa[/name] is dull.

[name]Maeve[/name]- love! It’s unique without being bizarre, and it’s easily adaptable to the name bearer’s personality (girly, sporty, shy, outgoing)
[name]Neve[/name]- Not really sure how to pronounce (sorry)
[name]Felicity[/name]- I do like this name, but it reminds me of a horse.
[name]Tessa[/name]- to girly

maeve is my fave of your list!

[name]Maeve[/name]: one of my favorite names and I think it goes well with [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Neve[/name]: I like it but I like [name]Niamh[/name] more
[name]Felicity[/name]: For some reason I have never liked this name, no reason just not a fan but I think violet and felicity work well and I know plenty of people love this name.
[name]Tessa[/name]: I loved this name a few years ago but I’m over it. I don’t think it’s as interesting as the rest.
My favorites are [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Neve[/name]. I don’t think [name]Neve[/name] works with [name]Violet[/name]. Looking at your list I like [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name] paired with [name]Violet[/name].

[name]Maeve[/name] - out of your names, this is my favourite, I really like [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] and I think it works best with [name]Violet[/name], and if you ever wanted, [name]May[/name], [name]Eve[/name] & [name]Evie[/name], would be great nn options.
[name]Neve[/name] - personally I prefer the [name]Niamh[/name] spelling and pronunciation.
[name]Felicity[/name] - I really like [name]Felicity[/name], it’s my almost favourite of your four, I don’t think it’s too long, I would use nn’s [name]Flick[/name] and Fliss though
[name]Tessa[/name] - I think compared to your other names, it’s a bit dull and especially compared to the beauty of [name]Violet[/name], it’s a bit boring and lackluster.

[name]Maeve[/name] - I feel like I should like it. It’s very up and coming and striking, and it would be a pretty obvious way to honor my grandmother (whose MN was [name]Mae[/name]). Still, it never seems to impress me. I like [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Macy[/name] much more. I do think [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name] would be lovely for sisters, though. I think [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] or [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] would be pretty.

[name]Neve[/name] - I think it’d be incredibly hard to get people to say just [name]NEV[/name], not NEEV. I automatically assumed it was an Anglicization of [name]Niamh[/name] (which I vastly prefer. NEEV). [name]Just[/name] [name]NEV[/name] doesn’t sound very appealing to me–it reminds me of boys’ names, like [name]Dev[/name], Ev (a common nn for [name]Evan[/name], and could be for [name]Everett[/name], although I think most prefer just [name]Rhett[/name]), [name]Lev[/name], etc.

[name]Tessa[/name] - sweeter than the spunky [name]Tess[/name]. I have been preferring just [name]Tess[/name] for a while now, but seeing [name]Tessa[/name] on your posts is reminding me why I used to love it. I think [name]Tess[/name] as a nn is very sweet, too.

[name]Felicity[/name] - vintage and sweet and such a happy name. I like it.

[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name] are my favorites, with [name]Tessa[/name] being at the top, but I don’t think you could really go wrong with any of them–[name]Neve[/name] would be too problematic for me, but it still looks elegant. I strongly prefer the NEEVE pronunciation, too, though… I think something like [name]Tessa[/name] [name]Niamh[/name] or [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Niamh[/name] would be lovely, too.

Good luck!

[name]Felicity[/name]- happy, striking name

[name]Maeve[/name]- never understood the sudden draw to the name

[name]Neve[/name]- prefer [name]Genevieve[/name] or [name]Niamh[/name]. will have pronunciation difficulties

[name]Tessa[/name]- lacks substance. prefer [name]Theresa[/name] nn. [name]Tessa[/name]

[name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Neve[/name] are beautiful and sound great with [name]Violet[/name]. I do love the Irish pronunciation of Neev though.

[name]Felicity[/name] isn’t my favourite but it sounds good with [name]Violet[/name] and I love the nickname [name]Flick[/name].

[name]Tessa[/name] doesn’t feel like a full name to me but it is sweet and I can see it’s appeal. Have fun choosing!

[name]Maeve[/name] - honestly, I really don’t like this name. it has a very blunt and unattractive sound to me, especially next to [name]Violet[/name].

[name]Neve[/name] - I only like it pronounced NEEV, “[name]Nev[/name]” doesn’t sound like a full name to me. Plus I feel that people would never pronounce it the way you want to.

[name]Felicity[/name] - Gorgeous, my favourite with [name]Violet[/name]. [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Autumn[/name] is stunning.

[name]Tessa[/name] - Sweet, but kind of blah and I also feel like it’s not a full name.

Thank you girls so much!! [name]Just[/name] got a chance to check NB and I am blown away by the amazing freedback! Enjoyed reading all of the responses so far

[name]Maeve[/name] - so glad to see all the positive feedback for this name. Relatively new to the short list and I just adore it. Extremely glad to see that you girls feel it’s a nice fit with big sis violet. Me too! And am super happy to see that it totally works even though we don’t have any Irish heritage. This name feels sweet and short but very Interesting. And I like the possible nn’s if she chooses to go by
one of those. I think this name would have pronunciation issues right? But I don’t really mind, If I go with this name I would just embrace that flaw…and correct people. Would be worth it I think.

[name]Neve[/name] - thank you all for pointing out the pronunciaion difficulties! I wonder if going with Neeeve pronunciation would be better? Still, I think this one will cause problems in that respect, yea?

[name]Felicity[/name] - such a great name, I agree. This one is firmly on the list. The length does make me a bit uneasy as I tend to go for shorter names. But it’s just too good to take off my list. And I really like it in my sib set too. [name]Major[/name]
contender.

[name]Tessa[/name] – I still really like this one

Our 10-month-old is [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] and I’m obsessed with her name! My husband is 7/8 Irish so it was an honoring of his heritage thing. But I definitely don’t think it has to be!

I know [name]Maeve[/name] is talked about quite often on Nameberry but it is definitely still quite uncommon. Somewhere in SSA’s 500s.

Sorry typing with one hand while I nurse the boisterous [name]Maeve[/name]!

Ok well…dh won’t even consider [name]Maeve[/name] :(. He said he would earlier but he just really really dislikes it. Boo!

He will consider felicity so hope he comes around for that name!

Oooh [name]Felicity[/name] is delicious! Another great choice!

Thanks you! Yeah, felicity is my front runner at the moment I think? Nn [name]CeCe[/name] isn’t Intuitive but I loooove it too ;). Liss/Lissy are super cute too. All around great name and wouldn’t mind using the full 4 syllables a lot.

[name]Tessa[/name] is still in the running, I’m just not feeling it tonight. I do like the [name]Tess[/name] nn though. Hmmm, I think it takes the number two spot tonight. It’s sweet and short but a safer choice for me personally. Not sure I like that…Still, this name has a lot going for it

I am also not a big fan of [name]Maeve[/name]. It sounds like a prickly old lady, to me. I also think it is a mouthful to say “[name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]” so that is something to consider.

I like [name]Neve[/name] but would also not choose it due to pronunciation issues.

What about [name]Vanessa[/name]? Kind of combines [name]Neve[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name]. You could even make [name]Neve[/name] work as a nickname, in my opinion (though I tend toward fairly loosely related nicknames). Though it has a similar problem of sounding very “v” heavy when you say it aloud with [name]Violet[/name].

[name]Felicity[/name] is pretty but it is not my style.

What about [name]Sylvia[/name]? (I love the nickname [name]Via[/name])

Thanks!

Well I still really love the name [name]Tessa[/name]. It’s simple
But I think I want simple. I think [name]Tess[/name] is super spunky. This me
Has what I am looking for so I’m probably gonna keep it as number one for now. [name]Love[/name] names so will
Most definitely be looking around though, just in case!
