[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Fellow Nameberries!
We are due with a boy in five weeks and are at a complete standstill on names. My husband and I cannot agree on anything. I from the south and love sweet southern names (he calls them “light” names) and my husband is from the north and loves more macho strong names. The ONLY name we agree on is the middle name, which is [name_u]Navy[/name_u]. However, because we cannot agree, we are thinking of making it his first name now. We are thinking [name_u]Navy[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] - unique with a little traditional. We both like it, but don’t love it. I’m stuck on my names and he’s stuck on his names.
What we can both agree upon is that we want something unique. We do not want a traditional name or a name that’s in the top 50 list. But at the same time we don’t something too far out there that people are going to be like WTH?! LOL.
I would love any input on any of these names or ideas for new names. We’ve both agreed to come together at the end of this week each with ten new names we haven’t heard before.
That’s my number one pick. My husband hates the name [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]. He says we aren’t Irish and it’s too “light”, that we need a stronger boys name. It’s been SO tough for him to like anything. But then again I think his names are ridiculous lol.
I don’t think I will be able to give any suggestions when [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] is macho and heavy and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] is sweet and light, this is counter intuitive to me lol…but I wouldn’t let him help pick names either if he wants your child to sound like a weird military joke
Agreed! He’s Italian and from [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] so he loves the [name_m]Rocco[/name_m]'s, Sebastians, [name_m]Antonio[/name_m]'s etc. He’s thinking Sopranos style names.
This is our first boy so he’s very into naming him. I tried to revoke his naming privileges but that didn’t work so well!
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] definitely sound cute together! [name_u]Sully[/name_u] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] (: My next favorites would be [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m], [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], and [name_u]Mason[/name_u]- but though [name_u]Mason[/name_u] sounds nice with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Mason[/name_u] [name_u]Navy[/name_u] doesn’t flow very well to me. [name_u]Navy[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] are ok, but [name_u]Navy[/name_u] is just too small next to [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Maybe [name_m]Thoren[/name_m] [name_u]Navy[/name_u]? I think [name_m]Thoren[/name_m] has all the heft your husband seeks without seeming incredibly out there.
I like [name_m]Thoren[/name_m]! I’m adding it to my new list [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is a very nice name too. Strong but still sounds “pretty”
What’s interesting about [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m] is that my third great grandfather’s name was [name_m]General[/name_m] [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m]. He was never in the army - his first name was just [name_m]General[/name_m]. So that’s where [name_m]General[/name_m] came from on my husbands list. I don’t mind it and I like that it’s a family name but I don’t like it with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Plus I just can’t really see myself calling for my kid “[name_m]General[/name_m]!” LOL
I like [name_u]Navy[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Navy[/name_u], and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Navy[/name_u]. [name_u]Legend[/name_u], [name_m]Major[/name_m], and [name_m]General[/name_m] are more than a bit silly as names.
My favorites out of what you have are:
[name_u]Navy[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]Navy[/name_u]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Navy[/name_u]
I have to say that [name_m]Major[/name_m] and [name_m]General[/name_m] [name_u]Navy[/name_u] are too ridiculous. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Navy[/name_u] is nice. I would keep [name_u]Navy[/name_u] in the middle.
I agree that [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Navy[/name_u] would be my pick. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] work together perfectly. Plus, it doesn’t get tougher or more manly than [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] the Great.
I wouldn’t use [name_u]Navy[/name_u] as a first, especially since your DD has such a classic name, style-wise I don’t think they work as siblings. Plus when I read “[name_u]Navy[/name_u]” I only thought of the color, not the U.S. [name_u]Navy[/name_u], which is why the name came off really “out there” to me.
I do think [name_u]Navy[/name_u] definitely works as a middle though! Of your list, I like:
[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Navy[/name_u] (NOT hyphenated)
[name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] [name_u]Navy[/name_u] - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the nn [name_m]Fitz[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Navy[/name_u]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_u]Navy[/name_u]
I like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] but not as a first name - it’s too common and would be shortened to [name_u]Alex[/name_u] (which I don’t like). [name_u]Alex[/name_u] L@yne sounds too boring for me.
