Thoughts on Our First Daughter's Name and More

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], everyone! I’ve been a lurker since high school and am now looking for your considerate thoughts on the names my husband and I are considering for our first daughter, due in [name_u]August[/name_u]. We plan to choose between the names once we meet her face-to-face.

[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] “[name_u]Hero[/name_u]” and “[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]” - We’ve discussed names since high school, and this has always been our frontrunner, especially since the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] books were incredibly influential for us. My only hesitation is that constantly being associated with Ms. [name_m]Granger[/name_m] will drive our daughter insane. (I like the other associations that the name has, but I can’t pretend HP has nothing to do with our decision.)

[name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] “[name_u]Ren[/name_u]” - This is our second option, which feels much safer to me. I think it’s a lovely name that flows well, though I get the feeling we might regret not using [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] if we never have another girl. It also seems strange to me that I don’t have any personal connection with the name [name_f]Florence[/name_f], having never been to the city or met/read about someone personally meaningful with the name.

*Note: We plan to use the formal names and nicknames interchangeably. The nicknames are actually what sold my husband on these names, which he’d previously considered too “out there.” Additionally, there are a lot of personal reasons we like the names that I’m not bothering to outline right now.

One last thing: We settled on these two so quickly that I’d like to make sure I’m not missing another, better option. I love these names, but they’ve been on my list for so long they’re feeling a little dull. I’d love to hear your suggestions.
