Thoughts on our front runner?

We are expecting our first baby (sex unknown) and are leaning towards the first name [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. My SO and I really love it, and would like to poll to see what others generally think. Please also comment on what kind of imagery the name elicits for you! Last name starts with O and is 2 syllables (4 letters).

We do have a small shortlist of alternate of other options if [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] doesn’t ‘fit’ when we meet the baby. They are:

[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] - Both love, but I had a lisp as a young child and so it gives me pause
[name_f]Simona[/name_f] - SO likes it more than me
[name_u]Marion[/name_u] - I like it more than SO
[name_f]Colette[/name_f] - I like it more than SO

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is beautiful!

I love all your options but [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is my favorite, then [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]… they’d make a great sibset!

I think [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is lovely. I picture someone delicate and mysterious, comfortable in their own skin and one with nature.

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] would good alternatives too if it doesn’t fit

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is nice! It feels very [name_m]French[/name_m] to me.

I also like [name_u]Marion[/name_u]. It’s really refreshing and different.

I really like [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] and especially with a shorter last name. I think of it as a great choice for those who want a polished, lovely name that is known but not boring or too common. [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is the standout for me, but I also like [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] and [name_f]Simona[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. My associations are delphinium flowers, the character on Orphan [name_m]Black[/name_m], and a bit of dolphin :stuck_out_tongue: (delfin in Spanish). I like your other options too. I’ll also suggest [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] as an alternative to [name_f]Simona[/name_f].

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is utterly gorgeous. I think of bluey-purple flowers on a Greek coast in the sunshine, with white sand and sparkling water far below. Also like the suggestion of [name_f]Sabine[/name_f].

I love the names you picked, great list, [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] isn’t a name I will use but I love how soft it sounds and the relation to the sea also makes me love the name since I live next to Dardanelle.

I absolutely adore [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]! She’s one of my absolute favorite names.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] but [name_f]Simona[/name_f] is gorgeous too (:

I love [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]! I associate it with dolphins and joy!

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is lovely, as is [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]. I prefer [name_u]Simone[/name_u] over [name_f]Simona[/name_f].

[name_u]Marion[/name_u] is usually the male spelling for [name_u]Marian[/name_u], and I think [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is so very pretty. We had an aunt with that name and sometimes it came out Aunt Clet (alarmingly close to a female genitalia body part)…so I could never name a child that.

I like [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] the best.

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is beautiful!

I loooooooove [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] and all your backups except [name_f]Simona[/name_f]

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is gorgeous.

Straight away brings to mind dolphins - as isn’t much different from either the Spanish or English! - and that dolphin sleekness. Strong but graceful, a bit mysterious.

I think how it flows will depend on the particulars of your last name, the vowel sounds it in etc: but you’ll be able to assess that yourselves.

I like that it means “dolphin” and I think of the Oracles of [name_f]Delphi[/name_f].

What a stunning shortlist!

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is gorgeous. Very chic, sophisticated and mature, but also very pretty. I have a cousin called [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] and love the name, so I’m naturally a big fan of this one.

I also adore [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], for many of the same reasons. Both feel very feminine, but also very clean and crisp and fresh.

[name_f]Simona[/name_f] is fabulous too! It feels a little bit spunkier and feistier than your other options, which I love! I like the [name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_u]Simone[/name_u] connection too — she’d be a great namesake.

[name_u]Marion[/name_u] is less my style, but I can appreciate that it’s a lovely, strong, unfussy, underused name. I do prefer [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], though (but I’m a HUGE [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] fan so that may be why!)

[name_f]Colette[/name_f] is pretty and unusual nowadays, but I do find it rather dated, I’m afraid. It doesn’t excite me as much as your other options — though it could certainly be spiced up with a funky nickname like [name_f]Coco[/name_f] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f]!

I love [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]—so gorgeous! It feels very elegant and springy to me, like a bud, or the flowers used to garnish a plate of pastries. I could see it swinging either toward very dainty or very strong, depending on the wearer. Great choice!
