Thoughts on our names

This is our last baby and we found out yesterday she’s a girl! She’ll be joining [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] (who goes by [name_f]Esme[/name_f]) Koiv. Middle names are Estonian relatives.

The name at the top of our list is [name_f]Astoria[/name_f], both for the city and it’s a name from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. I also like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] but my husband favors Astor as a nickname. I’m not sure I’m sold, I prefer the nickname [name_f]Aster[/name_f] as in the flower if we shorten it at all.

Names we also love:

[name_f]Ziva[/name_f] (probably husband’s second favorite)
Vidia (my second favorite)

We also considered [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f] for [name_f]Esme[/name_f]. This baby girl is already very active and spunky and if she looks like us and our relatives, brunette with blue eyes. Also any Estonian middle names are welcome.

I think [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] is interesting and would go quite well with [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], it’s grand and long but could easily be shortened.
As- names are always slightly complicated, I think; I didn’t think it would bother me but I watched a programm with a character named [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] a while back and all I heard was “Ass”. I don’t think it’s a problem with [name_f]Astoria[/name_f], as to my knowledge, it would be a short A followed by s rather than a long A as with [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] but when thinking about nicknames, it’s worth considering!

I’m also quite fond of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] as it would be lovely with both [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] ([name_f]Astoria[/name_f] is great with [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] but a grand next to [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] as a full name).
[name_f]Ziva[/name_f] is lovely, too, but a completely different direction (which isn’t bad, just not what I’d go with).
Vidia would probably be misheard as [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] a lot, unless the pronunciation is vee-dee-a.

Thank you! Great opinions on our names.

Vidia IS supposed to rhyme with [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], the spelling “Vydia” just looked so odd to me.

I love [name_f]Astoria[/name_f]. The shortform your husband likes is a homonym (sounds the same) as [name_f]Aster[/name_f], a pretty, vintage flower name that would go perfectly with [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_u]Corbin[/name_u]. After [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] I like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] with either [name_f]Astoria[/name_f]/Astor/[name_f]Aster[/name_f] for a middle. I also like the name [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].

I’d like to suggest [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]. It’s similar to [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] but has the ‘V’ sound you’re favouring. [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] would be beautiful together!

Thank you for your input! I do like [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], but it’s the name of a friend. We aren’t close but keep in touch and it would be weird I think. Typically I don’t like L names.

We might reconsider [name_u]Vivien[/name_u]. It was going to be [name_f]Esme[/name_f]'s middle name up until the end.

I love [name_f]Ziva[/name_f].

[name_u]Corbin[/name_u], [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_f]Ziva[/name_f] sound great.

What about [name_f]Tressa[/name_f]? It means third and also sounds very sweet with her siblings. Sadly I don’t know Estonian or Estonian names well so I can’t help you on that front.

[name_f]Tressa[/name_f] , [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_u]Corbin[/name_u].

I could also see you with a [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] , [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] , [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Astrid[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] is interesting for the associations you have with it, but I really really love the name [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]!

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is by far my favourite

I think [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] is great to go with [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] and [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]/[name_f]Esme[/name_f]! [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] make great sisters and [name_f]Aster[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] do as well! It’s perfect!

We’re looking for ideas on names that start with “L”! What are some of your favorites?

Ones we’ve considered are:

[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Laila[/name_f] / [name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Liana[/name_f]
[name_f]Liora[/name_f]

Thank you!

I like [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Aster[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Asteria[/name_f]?

I can not get my husband behind [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. So we went back to the drawing board and I am 95% sure it will be between [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Her middle name will probably already be an unusual Estonian middle name, so we are going with a more common first name. Although if we can’t [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] or [name_f]Aster[/name_f] could be a middle name contender.

I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a bit more spunky than [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] but it’s really hard to decide between them. Our last name starts with B and ends with “er”.

Any opinions?

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] are both great! I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] the best out of the two. [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is not an attractive name to me at all. All I hear is a** in the beginning, sorry. G’luck
