[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there. I’m a long time NB lurker and first time poster. I love names, but haven’t had a reason to seek advice or wisdom from the name gods since both of my kids (4 and 18 mos) already have names, haha. Approximately 10 weeks after a Caribbean cruise and it turns out that I am in need of a name for baby number three
We like to keep names simple. I am fascinated by a lot of the names people enjoy on this site, they are exquisite and rare, but mostly just the idea of them is intriguing and I stay on the safer side of naming. Our two are [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. Our list has been narrowed down, and since we don’t know the gender we don’t have to narrow it too much yet, but it’s still nice to work on it. I’d love any thoughts, advice, suggestions, etc. Middle names are still up in the air, but possibly something to honor a family member, [name_f]Katherine[/name_f].
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] - very pretty.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] - I can’t really comment because I have a very dumb personal bias against it… haha
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] - I love this name!!! It’s my favorite on your list, although if you’re the type of person that cares about that kind of stuff, it’s a little sing-songy with [name_f]Julia[/name_f].
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] - I like this name, it’s very classic, although getting to be quite popular. I like [name_f]Audra[/name_f], which has the same classy feel.
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - this is just too plain for me personally. I think [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is better, but I get that not a lot of people like it as a full name.
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] - this is also too plain/over used for me personally. I like the look of [name_f]Lara[/name_f] better.
With [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] goes best from your list. I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is a really beautiful addition, and fits really well with [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. Congrats!
Congratulations! I think all of your names are very pretty and classy (love your elder kids’ names too!), but my faves are definitely [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. Both so chic and sophisticated, beautifully feminine and strong, and not overused.
Why not simply [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] for the middle? It’s a beautiful, timeless classic and fits in really well stylistically with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] would be stunning!
Congrats! You have great taste in names! [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]- Probably my favorite from your list. I think it’s lovely and it goes great with your other kids’ names!
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]- Second favorite. The only thing that annoys me about it is the “wheeze” sound in the middle, but I still think it’s beautiful and way underused.
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]- It’s very pretty, but I don’t know if I like that it has a similar ending as [name_f]Julia[/name_f].
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]- I like this, but personally I’d go for something slightly less popular. If popularity doesn’t bother you then I do still think it’s a nice choice.
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]- I feel like I’ve known a million Annas in my life, and most of them are somewhere around my age (20’s) so the name feels a little worn out to me. I do think it goes well with [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] though.
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]- I somewhat like this name, but I think some of your other choices are better.
Oh we are definitely not against using [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] as a middle name. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] has been used a few times in our family for various family members so we thought we may “spice” it up by using [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] or [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f].
I have always pronounced Louisa with a soft “s” and not a “z” sound. “loo-WEE-sa” like the end sound of Lisa. I do not like “loo-WEE-za” at all! Maybe that’s going off the list, haha.
I adore [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]! And I think it goes perfectly well is [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m]. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] are also pretty.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] - This seems like it would work really well with your kids’ names, and has a pretty sound.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] - Similarly well-matched and lovely.
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] - Would work well, I’m personally not as fond of it.
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] - Works, but like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] I don’t like it personally.
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - Doesn’t have any sparkle to me.
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] - A little dated.
I think either [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], both beautiful names and fit right in with [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m]
My favorites from your list are [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] has such a soft, dreamy sound, and a sibset of [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is classic and familiar without verging into boring territory. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is timeless, and immediately brings Hepburn to mind, the epitome of class, wit, and grace. The only hiccup would be if you go with [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] as the middle - that’s two Hepburns in one name, if that matters to you at all. I find that [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] pairs quite well with [name_f]Julia[/name_f], but less so with [name_m]Silas[/name_m].
I am not a fan of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], which may be personal bias - I’ve never met a kind [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].
I would vote to remove [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f], and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] from your list. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is so very plain for a first name. [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is rather dated along with the Jessicas, Jennifers, and Samanthas of that generation. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] strikes me as pairing beautifully with your sibset, but you mentioned that you don’t use the Z pronunciation, and that’s going to be 75% of what you hear, if not more. I fear the wrong pronunciation would drive you batty.
Some suggestions:
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Alma[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Lois[/name_f] (similar to [name_f]Louise[/name_f] / [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] without the “eeze” problem)
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] with your children’s names. These are all beautiful and stylish. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] would be my favourites. I love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] but don’t think they go as well with the siblings. I’m not such a fan of [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] as it has a more dated feel to me.
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] - just gorgeous!
Thanks all! I think we’ve narrowed it down to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. I can’t get past the mixed pronunciation of [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. I’m leaning slightly more towards [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and even [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] seems over the top Hepburn, but that is probably not a deal breaker.
Hello, [name_f]Julia[/name_f] is a name that has never faded away like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] did after years on the charts. I’ve known several young [name_m]Julias[/name_m] but only one young [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and no one named Lyia. I think [name_f]Julia[/name_f] is a bit more contemporary-sounding than either one of those. It feels timeless rather than part of the vintage trend. That’s why I recommend [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. I think that [name_f]Anna[/name_f] seems too plain and Eastern-European to go with the more sophisticated [name_f]Julia[/name_f], while [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] feels too heavy.
After [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], I recommend [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. It just seems to sound beautiful with [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m].
[name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m]
Oh, I forgot to mention [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. It seems a little bit aristocratic and precious, whereas [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] both sound warm and strong.
