After several months and much debate my hubby has finally found a name that he likes for our son. The name is a bit more different than I would chosen myself, but he is determined it’s “the name.”
Olias [name]Noah[/name] ([name]Noah[/name] being my contribution)
I’ve never heard of Olias before, but I quite like it. It shares similar sounds with other popular names, but has a feel all its own. My main concern is that it would be misheard as [name]Elias[/name]. Have you considered [name]Elias[/name] [name]Noah[/name]?
A quick Google tells me Olias is a character from Guild Wars or from a song by someone I’ve never heard of. Does he play GW? I’m a pretty big gamer but I’d never name my child after a character. [name]Just[/name] my thoughts. I like PP’s suggestion of [name]Elias[/name]. I like that a lot and it’s similar.
I sort of like it…I would also be concerned that people would hear “[name]Elias[/name]” and thus misspeak or misspell it. Ultimately, you have to go with what you love, but if I were making the decision, I would change it to [name]Elias[/name] [name]Noah[/name] to avoid confusion.
To me it looks like you misspelled [name]Elias[/name]. If you love it then go for it but again, I would be worried it would be associated with [name]Elias[/name].
Olias sounds so much like [name]Elias[/name] that I’m not sure I’d even bother trying to push this one on people. Go for [name]Elias[/name] [name]Noah[/name] instead and save your son the hassle.
The name Olias is pronounced similar to [name]Elias[/name] yes, which I prefer but hubby for the most part seems fixated on the name. He doesn’t play video games, but did get the name from his favorite album “Olias of Sunhillow” by [name]Jon[/name] [name]Anderson[/name]. That album has always been his favorite.
It was the first boys name he’s seemed to genuinely like, and with an extremely common last name, I think he’s thinking of intentionally going for something different but not “too weird.”
Aha! That was the song (I guess it was album, I didn’t read too much) I saw. I feel better about it knowing it’s not a video game character but you might get some people asking if he’s named after Guild Wars since it’s a somewhat popular game (though I don’t know if the character is someone big in the game or not). [name]Just[/name] something to think about.
I kinda like it, but I was really torn between the OH-ee-us, oh-[name]LEE[/name]-us, and oh-LIE-us options pronunciation-wise. He’ll probably have to explain/correct people all the time…
