I recently have been considering Phineas as a boys name. It meets almost all my criteria. It’s masculine, vintage, and quirky with a fun nickname like “Finn.” It also has a nice biblical connection which is important to me. I’d like to know you’re honest thoughts on the name and what middles you’d pair with it. Also do you prefer the spelling Finneas or Phineas
I love [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] too. So quirky yet also with a calm, solid, ancient feel. [name_u]Finn[/name_u] or Phin is a great nickname, very cool and fun.
I definitely prefer the [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] spelling. [name_m]Finneas[/name_m] feels a bit misunderstood to me – as though someone had heard the name but never seen it written down, and just assumed it was another member of the [name_u]Finn[/name_u] family. I also think it’s too tied to the musician.
A mixed bag of middles for Phineas…

I actually really like [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] as a name, but personally I can’t help from mumbling the [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] and Ferb intro whenever I read it, so I prefer [name_m]Finneas[/name_m] as it helps me separate the two
[name_m]Finneas[/name_m] [name_u]George[/name_u]
[name_m]Finneas[/name_m] [name_u]Dean[/name_u]

I adore [name_m]Phineas[/name_m]! I prefer the “ph” spelling, even with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a nickname. It feels more classic in my own personal experience.
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m] is so sweet and strong, so handsome and sturdy. He feels both fresh and worn, with a sense of vintage charm. [name_u]Truly[/name_u] lovely name.
While I prefer [name_u]Finn[/name_u], I like [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], and I would prefer that spelling of it–especially for the Biblical connection you like.
Something like [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] [name_u]Jack[/name_u], [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] [name_u]Fox[/name_u] would be fun. [name_u]Or[/name_u] to continue the Biblical flavor, [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] [name_m]Josiah[/name_m].
This is the exact reason why Phineas has never made my list It’s not a bad association (far from it; the show’s an old favorite) and it’s a lovely name, but for me the association is just too strong to get past.
The spelling Finneas does help, and I think it’s a great way to get around it, but it’s not my cup of tea.
The Phineas name does remind me of Phineas and Ferb. It’s not an overbearing association, though — I’d probably notice it at first introduction, but it’d quickly be forgotten. The musician Finneas is helping to end this association for me.
Phineas Evren and Phineas Rosen are the options I’d lean towards!
The [name_f]English[/name_f] teacher me chooses [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] as the right spelling, but the aesthete choses Finnias because something about that ph bothers me. I think it reminds me of phlegm and pharmaceuticals. Sorry.
But I love the sound of the name, [name_m]Finneas[/name_m].
Exactly what I’m looking for!!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], and his nickname could be Phin. I would name our firstborn son that – or [name_u]Finnegan[/name_u] – if we weren’t set on the middle name of [name_m]Philip[/name_m].
