Prosser is a surname from my family tree…do you think it’s usable as a first name? Or is it more MN material?

My gut would be middle name. It seems odd to think of calling someone by Prosser daily. I’ve never heard it as a name, nor as a word.
Rhymes with [name_m]Chaucer[/name_m]? It seems very surname-y to me. I’d say it’s best suited to the middle slot.
Thank you!
It doesn’t rhyme with [name_m]Chaucer[/name_m]…it sounds like crosser
Reminds me of [name_m]Prosper[/name_m]. I think it’s cool as a first name.
Also, if it’s like “crosser” then it does rhyme with [name_m]Chaucer[/name_m].
Thanks eldie
I get how it might rhyme with [name_m]Chaucer[/name_m] in [name_u]America[/name_u], but in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand it doesn’t - they sound quite different
I don’t know what else to compare it to to distinguish between the sounds for american pronunciation…
Prosser seems usable as a first if middle, but I’m not a big fan. It might be because I love [name_m]Prosper[/name_m], but Prosser sounds like it’s missing something to my ears, and it did make me think prosecute.
There’s a very famous legal author who wrote Prosser on Torts. We always pronounced it Prah–sser. I think because a family name it would make a cool first name. The only problem I foresee is that it’s not really amenable to a nickname but many people only use their full first name.
I like that it has a family connection for you but I think it would be hard to wear as a first name so would put it in the middle spot.
I was on the fence until myosotis reminded me of [name_m]Prosper[/name_m], and now I kind of like it!
(Also, in many parts of the US, we say “cot” and “caught” the same way. The difference between Prosser and [name_m]Chaucer[/name_m] is probably the same, although I can’t actually tell because I’m from one of those parts of the US :P)
Well, sir names are pretty trendy. Prosser may fit right in with that trend. I see it more as a middle name though, but I think with some time, it may work as a first.
I’ve warmed to it because of people point out it’s close to [name_m]Prosper[/name_m]. But I still don’t think it should be a first name.
My not liking it I think is to with the fact that when I was in high school the boys would refer to prostitutes as Prossers or Possies (said more like Prozzer) but I still can’t get round that association. Sorry!
It’s not my style. Middle only, and even then it’s not attractive.
