What would your impression be of a new baby named [name_m]Richard[/name_m]? He’d be the full [name_m]Richard[/name_m] or [name_m]Rich[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] looking for any and all thoughts, as the name is surprisingly rarely discussed here. Thanks!
My first thought would be that it must be an honor name, but I would be pleasantly surprised to hear it. I prefer the nicknames [name_m]Rick[/name_m] or [name_m]Rico[/name_m] or even [name_m]Hart[/name_m].
Okay, I have such a crush on [name_m]Richard[/name_m]! It’s such a dashing, handsome name. I’d definitely vote to go for it. I’ve never really understood the idea that names can be too old for babies, since all babies grow up. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] [name_m]Richard[/name_m] will become an adult [name_m]Richard[/name_m].
I think it has a regal sound, but it also has the “[name_m]Dick[/name_m]” nickname which, while fading, is just not for me. But that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be used, definitely.
i like the full name a lot but am not a fan of any of the nicknames - [name_m]Dick[/name_m], [name_m]Rick[/name_m], or [name_m]Rich[/name_m]. I think the potential nicknames hold [name_m]Richard[/name_m] back from being more popular.
I like [name_m]Richard[/name_m] in full.
[name_m]Don[/name_m]’t love it but I have a friend [name_m]Richard[/name_m] nn [name_m]Rich[/name_m] and it’s a very good name on someone once they’re called the name, if that make sense; it wears well.
The [name_m]Richards[/name_m] I know are 45+ and I know a LOT of them. All middle aged men. However, there was one [name_m]Richard[/name_m] I knew in school who must be 25 now, and I thought it was odd to hear back then. So even odder to come across 15 or so years down the line. I’d assume it was an honour name, I don’t particularly care for it but find it very 1970s.
It does wear well, and there is no issue with the name [name_f]IMO[/name_f], but I just can’t picture it on anyone who isn’t middle aged.
It’s all right, but it’s far from my favorite vintage name. I don’t really love the nicknames, either.
I’d be surprised to meet a little [name_m]Richard[/name_m] now, but not in a bad way.
[name_m]Ritchie[/name_m] would be a cute nn whilst he’s younger, then [name_m]Rich[/name_m] when he’s older.
[name_m]Richard[/name_m] is a name I love, but I find most people think it quite out of date or dislike potential nicknames. I like the name in full and [name_m]Rick[/name_m] and [name_m]Rico[/name_m].
I’m pulling very hard for this name right now, for our 6th child/ 5th boy. Nickname would be [name_m]Richie[/name_m]. I’ve actually been calling him this (in my own head, mostly) for awhile now, since my DH is being so difficult about picking a name this time.
The other night, DH claimed to finally have settled on something ([name_m]Samuel[/name_m]/ “[name_u]Sam[/name_u]”) and I tried very hard to get on board with it, but I’m still stuck on [name_m]Richie[/name_m]. And so I continue to try to sell [name_m]Richard[/name_m]/[name_m]Richie[/name_m] to DH.
We’ll see!
