Thoughts on "Riecher"

Met an interesting young man by this name over the summer. Pronounced [name]RY[/name]-KER, I find it to be a tough sounding name with a more creative and elegant spelling. Riecher is definitely going on my list of favorites.

It’s a prison. I guess that’s the ‘tough’ sounding part. I don’t like the sound of it anyways.

Well, to be pronounced [name]RY[/name]-ker, it should be spelled Reicher. E should come before i because it’s of [name]German[/name] roots, and the second vowel is the one you actually say in pronunciation. Aside from the pronunciation being confusing to Americans, it is also the name of a prison, which is pretty negative. I kind of like the sound of it, although it’s a bit harsh to me. But the prison thing is enough to keep me from considering it.

My first thought was “The Third Reich.”

Agreed. The spelling makes me think Hitler. [name]Major[/name] no-no.

Completely agree. I’m shocked someone would choose this name for their child, actually, considering the connotations of Nazi Germany and then the prison (different spelling, same sound). [name]Just[/name] beyond me.
