[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries! I’m considering the name [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Mack[/name_m] for my third child. I love the meaning of [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] (“little seal”) and that it’s a strong, unfussy, two-syllable name that isn’t too common. [name_m]Mack[/name_m] is an important family name.
My only reservation: both names are Irish and neither of of my other kids have Irish names. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s weird to have names from a few different cultures within the same family? [name_f]Do[/name_f] sibling names need to “match”? Am I overthinking this?
Irish names are so common now that, a lot of the time, they are indistinguishable from English names, so I doubt that most people will even notice. It might be different if it were a name like [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f], but [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] and [name_m]Mack[/name_m] are so easy to pronounce that they won’t seem weird or foreign at all when compared to two siblings with English names. It seems you are definitely overthinking it.
Neither name strikes as sounding very Irish; I didn’t make the connection until you mentioned it. It’s a very good pair - [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_f]IMO[/name_f] sounds strong and sober, and [name_m]Mack[/name_m] is a bit more spunky.
Great names/combo, and although [name_f]IMO[/name_f] it does sound Irish it’s not so strongly such that it’d seem weird (probably similar to my name, [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]).
