It may be obvious (or not), but what comes to mind when you hear the name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m]? We like the nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], we just need some advice on the formal name.
If [name_f]Rose[/name_f] doesn’t work for you, what would you name your little girl if your last name was [name_m]Hill[/name_m]? Any people you’ve known with that particular surname? Thanks for your help!
We’ve considered [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] before. We like it better than [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] because it maintains the meaning we’re wanting - [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. We were married in a rose garden so the name is special to us, but we also know our last name could limit us here.
I used to date someone whose last name was [name_m]Hill[/name_m] and back then I decided to avoid obvious word/nature names. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] -or maybe [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]!
As far as baby names that sound like a place/object when paired with the last name, this one doesn’t sound so bad imo. It’s not like her name is [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Bush[/name_m] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Thorn[/name_m]— those definitely sound like cartoon names. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m] sounds pretty, and it doesn’t seem like there would be a lot of teasing potential behind it. If anything, maybe just people taking note that it sounds kind of like a word when you say her whole name.
I understand why you would be apprehensive about it though. I like the previous suggestions of [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Rosa[/name_f]?
It makes me think of a hill full or roses, it also makes me think of [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m], [name_u]London[/name_u].
I love the name [name_f]Rose[/name_f], however, I don’t think it works with noun last names, more precisely with nature-related noun last names as it creates too much of a sentence or description of something covered in/related to roses.
However, I do think that most other [name_f]Ros[/name_f]- names would work nicely with [name_m]Hill[/name_m], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m]; the only other one I’d stay away from is [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f].
Apart from [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names, many names sound good with [name_m]Hill[/name_m] as the last name: [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m], etc.
Maybe avoid one-syllable names as they tend to sound very choppy with one-syllable last names.
