Thoughts on Serena Joelle?

I think I’m starting to fall in love with the name [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] for a future baby girl. Since we would keep the name a secret from friends till baby is born, I would love to hear your reaction to this name and if you like it or not. What would you think if your friend announced this as their baby’s name?
I thought [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] would be a perfect name for honoring family, [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] and [name_u]Joyce[/name_u]. And it has such a pretty sound to me. Would consider it as a first, but can’t decide if it sounds too dated. Thoughts?

It’s lovely!! What a gorgeous, peaceful name. Also, love the sound pairing of these two.
I grew up with a girl named [name_f]Joelle[/name_f], and always thought she had the PRETTIEST name. Definitely don’t think it’s dated whatsoever. Stunning!

I think both names sounds nice on their own, but I personally have one big hesitation about using them together. The sound reminds me very strongly of [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], a disturbing and sad and creepy character from a very famous novel, The Handmaid’s Tale.

Spoilers: The character was a televangelist who advocates for a set of social changes that result in her being trapped and powerless and in an unhappy marriage in a society where women are unable to own their own money or property, and where a creepy state-sanctioned adultery program causes her to have to watch her husband repeatedly sleep with another (unwilling) woman. It’s a pretty well-known novel, and she is an important character. I’d imagine quite a few people might think of it when they hear such a similar sounding name.

I don’t know that the spoiler is something to worry about as the middle name is different and if you love it I think you should still use it. I’m assuming the book is a fictional novel not a true story. [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] is lovely and I like how [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] honours family for you.

Aww, thanks for the kind words! It’s always nice to have positive reactions to a name you love.

Thanks for the input. I’m not too worried about the name association with the book (I’d never heard of it) since it’s not the same middle, but it is something to be aware of, so thanks.

[name_f]Serena[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] is more ‘country’ than dated to me, and not in a good way. [name_f]Maybell[/name_f] Sullen, [name_m]Jim[/name_m]-[name_m]Bob[/name_m], etc. I also get the Handmaid’s Tale Reference, but I think [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] [name_u]Joyce[/name_u] would be lovely and far enough removed from the character.

I love both [name_f]Serena[/name_f] and [name_f]Joelle[/name_f]! They go really nice together =] it’s a perfect and a really creative way to honor those specific people.

I just looked, and I have the combo [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]NOelle[/name_f] (and [name_f]Serenity[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]) on my own personal list of cute combos. No wonder it sounded familiar.

Anyways, [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] sounds and looks beautiful. Great choice!

I think [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] is lovely! Although the Handmaid’s Tale character aspect does seem a bit problematic, since it is an extremely well known book. But most people would only know her by her first name anyway, and the combo is still marvelous. I adore the name [name_f]Serena[/name_f], and I think the combo looks and sounds great. I also like a previous poster’s suggestion of [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] [name_u]Joyce[/name_u]–it sounds very regal to me.

Wow, it’s a really beautiful name. The flow is perfect, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Serena[/name_f] (so peaceful and pretty, and has a really regal/classy quality about it), and [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] is a great honor middle name.
