Thoughts on Shana?

[name_m]How[/name_m] does the name [name_f]Shana[/name_f] sound to you (pronounced like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]?). I am pondering names
and considering if it might be a nice alternative to [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] which I like the simpleness and classic “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” sound, but these are too common for me and [name_f]Shana[/name_f] very uncommon. It is an older name that is now rarely used though so my question is…does it sound too unfashionable to be usable like “[name_f]Shirley[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Sharon[/name_f]” or does it sound like other names that are older but still sound pretty like “[name_f]Laura[/name_f]”? I noticed at its height of its popularity it was not even in the top 100 so maybe that is in its favor of not seeming too dated? Would love opinions! Thanks!

I never heard the name [name_f]Shana[/name_f] and I personally love it?? And the thought of the names [name_f]Shana[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] and [name_f]Shana[/name_f] [name_u]Riley[/name_u] make me like it even more.

I do like [name_f]Shana[/name_f], but if you’re looking for it to be pronounced like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] you might want to change the spelling because people will think it’s [name_u]Shay[/name_u]-nuh. I have a friend named [name_f]Shanna[/name_f], which I think looks nicer as well, and while people do mispronounce her name sometimes, it seems like it would be a lot more obvious than [name_f]Shana[/name_f].

I have a friend, [name_f]Shana[/name_f], pronounced Shah-nah. I personally don’t love “Sh” names but I do think it’s a name that ages very well and is a confident, sweet and distinctive name!

I’d pronounce it Shah-nuh, its not my style but I dont think its unuseable

Thanks for the tips on pronunciation and spelling. Ok, just for clarification, lets assume we change the spelling to [name_f]Shanna[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Shana[/name_f] since its the “A” in “[name_f]Apple[/name_f]” sound I am thinking about in the name, like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. The sound of the “A” makes a big difference to me as I don’t like “[name_f]Shauna[/name_f]” at all, but do like the “A” in “[name_f]Apple[/name_f]” sound. Does that make any difference in the usability of the name?

I think it’s very useable. I’m not sure how well know it is as I’ve never heard of it before. As a result though, it doesn’t come off as old fashioned at all, but it’s somehow still a little familiar sounding. For me [name_f]Shana[/name_f] feels like a modern take on names like [name_u]Shanon[/name_u], [name_f]Sharon[/name_f].

I love it! I love that whole family of names - [name_f]Shana[/name_f], [name_f]Shanna[/name_f], [name_f]Shayna[/name_f], etc.
I believe the spelling [name_f]Shanna[/name_f] is more intuitive for the pronunciation but I vastly prefer the [name_f]Shana[/name_f] spelling aesthetically for some reason.

I think [name_f]Shana[/name_f]/[name_f]Shanna[/name_f] is very pretty. Neither spelling would prompt me to pronounce it as [name_u]Shay[/name_u]-nah; it would have to be spelled [name_f]Shayna[/name_f]/[name_f]Shaena[/name_f] for me to think of that pronunciation.

I love [name_f]Shana[/name_f] - Shah-na, [name_f]Shanna[/name_f] - [name_u]Shay[/name_u]-na is okay, I hate [name_u]Shannon[/name_u].

I like [name_f]Shanna[/name_f], and think that’s the best spelling for the pronunciation you want.

[name_f]Shana[/name_f] I would assume is either [name_u]Shay[/name_u]-na or [name_f]Shar[/name_f]-na - I would need to ask which of those.

I love [name_f]Shana[/name_f]/[name_f]Shanna[/name_f]. [name_f]Shani[/name_f] is great, too!
