What do you think?
I find it unusual & warrior-ish & kind of cool.
It’s a version of [name]Cecilia[/name] which I love but find too popular & worry that the song would haunt her!

I went through a phase in my teen years where I LOVED [name]Sheila[/name]. It would be sweet to see on a baby, because I have yet to meet a [name]Sheila[/name] of ANY age. It’s spunky, cute, easily recognized and therefore easily spelled and pronounced. I like it. Lately I’ve been REALLY liking a variant of [name]Sheila[/name] that has made it onto my short list. You may like [name]Shyla[/name]?
It makes me picture a middle aged women chain smoking in a moomoo and yelling at her husband. I don’t think it would ever grow on me.
I agree with uselesskitty. That has been my experience with the name for sure.
I agree with uselesskitty & ninanoo. Not a pleasant picture.
Plus it’s slang for woman in Australia.
In Australian slang it is equivalent to “chick”… i.e. men/boys use “[name]Sheila[/name]” to comment on women as in: “Your single brother needs to meet some Sheilas”. It also means “blind” so, I would never be able to use it. Besides, I picture a middle aged woman too.
I’m such a lurker and don’t usually post - but had to on this one! My name is [name]Sheila[/name] and I am 28, not middle aged at all. I realize that it isn’t heard everyday… but I [name]LOVE[/name] my name and always have! Easy to say and spell (aside from those determined to spell it [name]Shiela[/name]).
Never had anyone make the connection to [name]Cecelia[/name].
It’s a fabulous choice! To each their own!
I knew a [name]Sheila[/name] when I was in high school, so I don’t have those old lady associations with it. I think it’s unusual but not weird. And I think if you aren’t Australian the whole [name]Sheila[/name] as “chick” isn’t a big deal.
I’m loathe to label a name as “dated” but [name]Sheila[/name] is probably on that list in my head… i kind of like Shelagh or [name]Sile[/name], but they’re not so accessible outside [name]Ireland[/name] or [name]Scotland[/name].
I don’t know why, but I equate it with a dog’s name – like Fido or [name]Tobi[/name] or Lady. I do know a [name]Sheila[/name] in her 30s whom I like a lot, but I’m not a fan of the name.
really not a fan, I’d think of a dog or a fishmonger’s wife screeching out across the fish market for some reason! [name]Cecilia[/name] would be pretty though
It’s just a dated name in my mind unfortunately. [name]Cecilia[/name]/[name]Cecelia[/name] is much more classic and pretty imo.
Regardless of its Australian usage, I actually kind of like [name]Sheila[/name]. It reminds me of the musical Hair, which featured a character by this name. I think it’s fairly pretty, and wouldn’t mind seeing it make a comeback.
This. Always and 1000x this!
