I’d love to hear your thoughts on the names [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] and [name_m]Alistair[/name_m]. We are looking for a unique male name, but something that’s not too obscure. We live in a major city in the U.S. if that helps with some context. Possible nn? Thanks in advance for your help!
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m] would be my choice! [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] seems more stuffy compared to it, even though they’re in the same category more or less.
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] I probably would like if it weren’t for the rather grim ‘sin’ part; I find St. [name_u]Clair[/name_u] much more appealing as a name. [name_m]Alistair[/name_m], on the other hand, I would use in a minute if I planned to stick with a Scottish theme : ) I like the spelling [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] more, for the NN [name_u]Adair[/name_u] (which I also love). I can’t think of any nicknames for [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u], though.
I vote [name_m]Alistair[/name_m]! I too live in a large city, went to school with an [name_m]Alistair[/name_m], and have run into countless others. The [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] I knew rarely had to correct others on pronunciation, spelling, etc. and didn’t run into any teasing. [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] is nice, but as others have said it’s a little stuffy.
