Thoughts on Tessa?

When you think of [name]Tessa[/name], do you automatically assume it’s short for [name]Theresa[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Tessa[/name] is used enough to stand on it’s own merits these days?

I love [name]Tessa[/name]! I’d not assume it was short for [name]Theresa[/name], I’m in the U.K. though and names are different here. Anyway, it can definitely stand on its own, it’s a great name.

[name]Tess[/name] I might assume was [name]Theresa[/name], but not [name]Tessa[/name]. I think it stands on its own fine (in US here).

I adore [name]Tessa[/name]. That was one that I always assumed was short for something, at least by origin, but never bothered to look it up until recently. Now that I know, I think I’d assume it was a standalone name rather than being short for [name]Theresa[/name].

I like [name]Tessa[/name], although I prefer just [name]Tess[/name]. I think it’s lovely, strong, sweet. Adorable for a little girl. :slight_smile: I definitely think it stands on its own. :slight_smile:

My daughter [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] just turned 5 and we have gotten so many compliments through the years on her name. It is nice to have an easy to spell name with a sweet and short and simple nickname like [name_f]Tess[/name_f] to use. I couldn’t love the name more. Also, her middle name is [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and we get a lot of compliments on that as well!

I like [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], and wouldn’t assume it was a nickname for anything. I’ve met a [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], and a few [name_f]Tess[/name_f]’s. I think it’s a very pretty, underused and simple name.

We have a young [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] too! And like you, we get so many compliments on her name, but rarely meet another. We love it so much, and are so glad we chose it. I think the name hits a sweet spot between feminine, fun, and bohemian while remaining somewhat traditional. Big (biased) yes vote here!

Tessa is totally its own name nowadays. [name_f]Tess[/name_f], too.

  • Tessa [name_m]Thompson[/name_m] helped popularize it.
  • And before that, the novel, [name_f]Tess[/name_f] d’Ubervilles.
  • Soooo travelable. Everyone can pronounce it.
  • In my experience, everyone has met someone or knows of someone named it. But we don’t expect there to be another in her class.

We picked the name for our kid. She is the best, and her name is awesome, too. [name_f]My[/name_f] totally unbiased opinion.

@BCTDole
Were we separated at birth? Our [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] was so close to being named [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. We ended up forgoing a MN but have debated adding it as her MN after the fact. [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is still on our to-use list.

Also, wow this thread is 8yrs old!
