[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] ([name_u]Leigh[/name_u])

I tried to avoid [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]William[/name_m], and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] because they are so common.

[name_m]Clark[/name_m] - love this! Classic, uncommon, good associations, easy to spell/pronounce, not dated at all. It’s on my list.
[name_u]Cary[/name_u] - like it a lot, could see a comeback in this name’s future.
[name_m]Humphery[name_m] - not keen on naming a kid anything starting with “hump”. Too dated.
[name_m]Marlon[/name_m] - way cool, fits in with current trends but could still be timeless. I could also see this spiking in popularity, and it’s more of a substantial name to me than [name_u]Marley[/name_u]
[name_m]Paul[/name_m] - I find this a little boring and it was very common when I was growing up in a very Italian area, but it’s a good, solid, nice name. Like [name_u]Michael[/name_u] or [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m]. Good, but I’m tired of it lol.
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]” - I know a few LOs with this name! It’s nice, maybe a little common for my taste but nothing wrong with it.
[name_m]Errol[/name_m] - love this! My best friend would have been [name_m]Errol[/name_m] were she a boy and she’s glad she wasn’t…I think [name_m]Errol[/name_m] is a really cool name!
([name_u]Flynn[/name_u]) - counting this because I can see it rising in popularity, especially as the [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Rider[/name_m] generation of movie goers grows up. I think this is a good name too.
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] - sounds dated but I can see it coming back with lots of other -son names.
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - I see this as really dated.
([name_u]Tracy[/name_u]) - also see this as dated and never going back to boys
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m] - boring but nice. Classy, good name, just overused [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
[name_u]Gary[/name_u] - so dated, unlike [name_u]Cary[/name_u] I don’t see this making a comeback.
([name_m]Cooper[/name_m]) - so trendy, too surnamey for my liking, definitely going to sound dated in ten years.
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] - this name is excellent! I really want to see it more!
[name_m]Kirk[/name_m] - dated, but I can see it coming back. It’s pretty cool.
([name_u]Douglas[/name_u]) - super dated.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - timeless, classic, gorgeous!
[name_m]Charlton[/name_m] - this is odd, and I could see it gaining popularity as an alternative to [name_m]Charles[/name_m] or other -on names, but it is very surnamey and probably would be too affiliated with one demographic or another to become widely used
[name_u]Gene[/name_u] - I can see this getting popular again, though it is dated. ([name_u]Kelly[/name_u]) - I see this trending back to boys, and regaining popularity. I love it.
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] - wish it would come back! Super cool, old-but-new name. Unfortunately all the female “Syndeys” likely ruined it’s chances for a while.
[name_m]Ronald[/name_m] - I like it but it is a bit dated.
[name_m]Fredric[/name_m] - surprised it’s not more popular. I see it gaining popularity
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] I love it and love [name_m]Walt[/name_m]!
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u] I see this gaining popularity as an alternate to [name_m]Leo[/name_m] names!
[name_m]Joel[/name_m] - love this!
[name_m]Alan[/name_m] - I like [name_m]Alan[/name_m] a lot but it’s a bit boring.
[name_m]Rock[/name_m] - [name_m]Rock[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]'s name is [name_m]Dwayne[/name_m], and he goes by “The [name_m]Rock[/name_m]”, not just rock, so I’m confused by this. I don’t see [name_m]Rock[/name_m] getting popular or being usable either. I like nature names but [name_m]Rock[/name_m] is silly sounding to me. ([name_u]Hudson[/name_u]) - becoming really trendy. I’m not into place/surnames but it could be worse.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] - love this, classy, cool, soft sounding , I hate the nn [name_m]Pete[/name_m] though!
[name_m]Richard[/name_m] - dated, but it’s a pretty classy, handsome, royal name. Unfortunately I see “[name_m]Dick[/name_m]” as a potential teasing hazard of a nn these days, even though it’s always been common.
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] - see this trending along with [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_u]Riley[/name_u], etc. It’s a dog’s name to me. I like it as a nn but I don’t know for what.
[name_m]Tyrone[/name_m] - I prefer other [name_m]Ty[/name_m]- names ( [name_u]Tyson[/name_u], [name_u]Tyler[/name_u], [name_m]Tyrese[/name_m]) and I don’t ever see this becoming popular with majority white people in the US. It’s a bit dated, too.
[name_u]Howard[/name_u] - not the best associations out there (Stern, Big Bang [name_m]Theory[/name_m], etc) but I don’t see anything innately wrong with it.
[name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] - love it but the red-nosed-reindeer might be a touch association to break ([name_m]Valentino[/name_m]) - love this!

ill do the ladies later!

Males:

I really like [name_u]Cary[/name_u], [name_m]Marlon[/name_m], [name_u]Gene[/name_u] and [name_m]Tyrone[/name_m].

From the surnames i like Matthau and [name_m]Valentino[/name_m] for fn

The ones I don’t care for are [name_m]Errol[/name_m] (sounds too much like error to me), [name_m]Orson[/name_m] (not so keen on most -son names as fn), [name_m]Kirk[/name_m] (doesn’t sound pretty [name_f]IMO[/name_f]), [name_m]Rock[/name_m] (like the meaning, not the sound) and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] (sounds like a brand name). The rest I’m neutral on.

Females:

I don’t care for [name_f]Greer[/name_f] (sunds harsh and it’s short, i like short names but the combo with the sound makes s not beautiful [name_f]IMO[/name_f]), [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] (i have no real relation to this name, I can’t really explain why but it just does nothing for me), [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] (all the r’s put me off) and [name_f]Greta[/name_f] (also harsh sounding)

I really like [name_u]Vivien[/name_u], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Marlene[/name_f]. the rest I’m neutral on

The only names I really like are [name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], & [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. I’m pretty neutral on the rest of them.
Except [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I don’t know why, but I’ve never liked [name_m]Henry[/name_m].

Most of the male names seem pretty unremarkable to me - they just strike me as typical names of their time and place. one of the male names seem too feminine to use on a boy today … [name_u]Cary[/name_u]. For boys, I really like:

[name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Fredric[/name_m], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] and [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m]

Many of the women’s names are very popular these days - [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f],and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. Others seems to fit in with the current vintage trend - [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_u]Joan[/name_u], [name_f]Rita[/name_f]. For girls, I really like:

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivien[/name_u].

adore - [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] (although I prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]), [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]

love - [name_m]Paul[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Fredric[/name_m], [name_m]Joel[/name_m], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] (adore [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lilla[/name_f], and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]), [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] (prefer [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] or [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], adore)

like - [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_m]Kirk[/name_m], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Greer[/name_f]

neutral - [name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_u]Cary[/name_u], [name_m]Humphrey[/name_m], [name_m]Marlon[/name_m], [name_m]Errol[/name_m], [name_m]Orson[/name_m], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], [name_u]Gary[/name_u], [name_u]Laurence[/name_u], [name_u]Douglas[/name_u], [name_m]Charlton[/name_m], [name_u]Gene[/name_u], [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] (m), [name_m]Ronald[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_u]Lionel[/name_u], [name_m]Alan[/name_m], [name_m]Rock[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Richard[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], [name_m]Tyrone[/name_m], [name_u]Howard[/name_u] (like [name_m]Howie[/name_m]), [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m], [name_f]Claudette[/name_f], [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Marlene[/name_f], [name_f]Judy[/name_f], [name_u]Joan[/name_u], [name_f]Doris[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], [name_f]Deborah[/name_f], [name_f]Bette[/name_f], [name_f]Rita[/name_f], [name_f]Ginger[/name_f], [name_f]Carole[/name_f], [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Barbara[/name_f]

So many of the Classic movie stars have names that I find quite lovely.

For the men, I especially like, [name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_u]Douglas[/name_u], [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_u]Rex[/name_u].

For the women, I find that [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] are stunning. I also have a fondness for [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] as a nickname, but have never come
up with a good name for it to be the nn for.

I like:

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]” ([name_m]Chaplin[/name_m])
[name_m]Errol[/name_m] ([name_u]Flynn[/name_u])
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] (Welles)
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] ([name_u]Tracy[/name_u])
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m] (Peck)
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] (Poitier)
[name_m]Fredric[/name_m] ([name_u]March[/name_u])
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] (Matthau)
[name_m]Joel[/name_m] (McCrea)
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] (O’Toole)
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] ([name_m]Harrison[/name_m])

[name_f]Katharine[/name_f] (Hepburn)- much prefer [name_f]Catharine[/name_f] though
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] (Hepburn)
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] (Bergman)
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] ([name_f]Garbo[/name_f])
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (Dandridge)
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] ([name_m]Russell[/name_m])
[name_f]Greer[/name_f] ([name_m]Garson[/name_m])
[name_f]Bette[/name_f] ([name_m]Davis[/name_m])
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] ([name_f]Gish[/name_f])
[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] ([name_u]Leigh[/name_u])

And I would consider using:
[name_m]Errol[/name_m], [name_m]Orson[/name_m], [name_m]Frederic[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_u]Vivien[/name_u]

I love [name_u]Cary[/name_u] and [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]. The only other guys name I like here is [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]. But PLL has ruined that name for me.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. I like the GR sound but for some reason I’m really opposed to [name_f]Greer[/name_f]. It sounds so harsh and non feminine.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] reading the title of the thread before reading the list the names that came to mind were [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Lana[/name_f]

[name_m]Clark[/name_m] - I really like. I like surnames as first names. Maybe I’d use [name_m]Clarke[/name_m] or Clarkson though.
[name_u]Cary[/name_u] - Hate it. To me it sounds more of a girls name. Plus my name is [name_f]Carys[/name_f], it looks too similar written down.
[name_m]Humphrey[/name_m] - awful. Very over the top posh.
[name_m]Marlon[/name_m] - Hm, not a fan.
[name_m]Paul[/name_m] - I know too many [name_m]Paul[/name_m]'s that I dont like to find this name likeable!
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]” - [name_u]Love[/name_u] both, but wouldn’t use them.
[name_m]Errol[/name_m] - No. Doesn’t sound like a persons name, makes me think of the Owl in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m].
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] - Dislike.
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - Its alright.
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m] - I like it, with [name_m]Greg[/name_m] as a nickname.
[name_u]Gary[/name_u] - Its a little plain.
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like it that much.
[name_m]Kirk[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Kirk[/name_m]! I’ve always had a thing for K names on boys.
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u] - Yeah, with [name_m]Doug[/name_m] or [name_m]Dougie[/name_m] as nickname
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - A little old fashioned for my taste, plus someone in my family just named their baby [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
[name_m]Charlton[/name_m] - I actually like it.
[name_u]Gene[/name_u] - It makes me think of [name_u]Jean[/name_u], which is a girls name.
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] - I prefer [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] on a girl.
[name_m]Ronald[/name_m] - Not a fan.
[name_m]Fredric[/name_m] - Dislike.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - I like it, but not on a newborn!
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u] - Yeah, its nice
[name_m]Joel[/name_m] - I like it
[name_m]Alan[/name_m] - Dislike.
[name_m]Rock[/name_m] - Really dislike.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] - [name_m]Peter[/name_m] is what I call a ‘tweedy’ name. It goes in a category with [name_m]Tim[/name_m] and [name_u]Percy[/name_u]. They make me think of really skinny geeky boys.
[name_m]Richard[/name_m] - Its a little boring but I like it.
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] - Yeah, nice as far as unusual names go
[name_m]Tyrone[/name_m] - I like it.
[name_u]Howard[/name_u] - I like it but dont think I’d use it.
[name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] - No way. Reindeer.

[name_f]Katharine[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Katharine[/name_f].
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] - It’s grown on me lately.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - Very cute, but very popular.
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f] - Not nice at all.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - Adorable and classic
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] - Sweet. I used to really hate it but again, recently its grown on me.
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] - I think its cute but wouldn’t use it.
[name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] - Dont like
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] - Makes me scrunch up my face :stuck_out_tongue:
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] - Gorgeous!
[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] - Nope
[name_f]Judy[/name_f] - Nope again
[name_u]Joan[/name_u] - Ew, sorry!
[name_f]Doris[/name_f] - Gross
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] - Very cute. I love [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] as a nickname!
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] - pretty
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] - not nice
[name_f]Deborah[/name_f] - too old fashioned
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - very nice
[name_f]Greer[/name_f] - Like it a lot! A GP name
[name_f]Bette[/name_f] - Nope.
[name_f]Rita[/name_f] - Nope.
[name_f]Ginger[/name_f] - its alright.
[name_f]Carole[/name_f] - No
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] - I know too many [name_m]Laurens[/name_m].
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] - its okay.
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f] - Nope.
[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] - Alright.

For ‘classic movie stars’ I know about five.

I like [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Joel[/name_m], [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f].

[name_m]Clark[/name_m] ([name_m]Gable[/name_m])- I love [name_m]Clark[/name_m]. It sounds so distinguished. I’d use it if it worked in my 2nd language.
[name_u]Cary[/name_u] ([name_m]Grant[/name_m])- I’m pretty neutral on [name_u]Cary[/name_u] but I will always prefer it on a boy.
[name_m]Humphrey[/name_m] ([name_m]Bogart[/name_m])- Not a fan of the name. Loved the actor though!
[name_m]Marlon[/name_m] ([name_m]Brando[/name_m])- not my favorite, but I know someone named [name_m]Marlon[/name_m] and he wears it well.
[name_m]Paul[/name_m] ([name_m]Newman[/name_m])- I really like [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. [name_m]Paul[/name_m] seems so friendly and likable.
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]” ([name_m]Chaplin[/name_m])- I go back and forth on [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. I like it. It is classic and masculine
[name_m]Errol[/name_m] ([name_u]Flynn[/name_u])- Not a fan of this one.
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] (Welles)- I really like [name_m]Orson[/name_m]. I think it is ready for a comeback.
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] ([name_u]Tracy[/name_u])- Not a fan of [name_u]Spencer[/name_u].
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m] (Peck)- I love the name [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]. I’ve had it on my list since I started making lists four years ago. I think it is classic.
[name_u]Gary[/name_u] ([name_m]Cooper[/name_m])- [name_u]Gary[/name_u]. Ugh. So boring.
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] ([name_m]Olivier[/name_m])- I like [name_u]Laurence[/name_u]. I would love to meet a little boy (or a teenager) with this name.
[name_m]Kirk[/name_m] ([name_u]Douglas[/name_u])- Not a fan.
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u] ([name_m]Fairbanks[/name_m])- I like [name_u]Douglas[/name_u]. I think it should be used more. I have some bad associations with it, but I think it is a great choice for someone else.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] ([name_f]Fonda[/name_f])- I used to like [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but now it seems to be getting super common.
[name_m]Charlton[/name_m] (Heston)- I prefer [name_m]Charles[/name_m] or [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].
[name_u]Gene[/name_u] ([name_u]Kelly[/name_u])- pretty boring.
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] (Poitier)- I don’t like [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] (or [name_u]Sydney[/name_u]) on any gender.
[name_m]Ronald[/name_m] ([name_m]Colman[/name_m])- I prefer [name_m]Roland[/name_m], [name_m]Ronald[/name_m] is pretty boring [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
[name_m]Fredric[/name_m] ([name_u]March[/name_u])- I prefer the [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] spelling, but I really like this name. If it worked in my second language I’d probably use it.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] (Matthau)- I love [name_m]Walter[/name_m]. I had it on my list for a long time. It probably would still be on my list if it worked in my second language.
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u] (Barrymore)- I like it, and would like to see it used more.
[name_m]Joel[/name_m] (McCrea)- eh.
[name_m]Alan[/name_m] ([name_m]Ladd[/name_m])- boring.
[name_m]Rock[/name_m] ([name_u]Hudson[/name_u])- too wordy.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] (O’Toole)- I think [name_m]Peter[/name_m] seems a bit dated right now, but it should be coming back soon. I like it.
[name_m]Richard[/name_m] ([name_m]Burton[/name_m])- bad associations with [name_m]Richard[/name_m], never really liked the name.
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] ([name_m]Harrison[/name_m])- [name_u]Rex[/name_u] is a little to nicknamey for me.
[name_m]Tyrone[/name_m] ([name_m]Power[/name_m])- [name_m]Tyrone[/name_m] is seen as a bit low class where I live.
[name_u]Howard[/name_u] (Keel)- slightly boring but I can see it coming back.
[name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] ([name_m]Valentino[/name_m])- I don’t think this one will ever make a comeback.

[name_f]Katharine[/name_f] (Hepburn)- I prefer the [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] spelling, but it is a classic name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] beautiful.
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] (Hepburn)- I love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. Would have it on my list if it worked in my second language.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] ([name_u]Gardner[/name_u])- super popular where I live so it find it boring.
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f] ([name_m]Colbert[/name_m])- Not a fan. But I love [name_u]Claude[/name_u] on a boy!
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] ([name_u]Loren[/name_u])- I really like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and wish it wasn’t so popular.
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] ([name_u]Kelly[/name_u])- [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a classy name due to Ms. [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]. I wouldn’t use it myself, but I think it is a sweet choice.
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] ([name_u]West[/name_u])- eh. I think it is better as a middle. Too short.
[name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] ([name_u]Monroe[/name_u])- [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] is growing on me. I met a little girl at my mom’s school with the name. I think it is kind of sweet on a younger kid. Same with [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] (like [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u]). Most people see [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] as super dated, but I know a girl a year behind me named [name_f]Shirley[/name_f], and she wears it well and gives it a bit of life.
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] (Bergman)- [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is one of those names that’s like nails on a chalk board for me.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] ([name_f]Garbo[/name_f])- [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is okay. Prefer [name_f]Gretel[/name_f].
[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] ([name_m]Dietrich[/name_m])- [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] seems really dated to me.
[name_f]Judy[/name_f] ([name_f]Garland[/name_f])- Not a fan. Prefer [name_u]Jude[/name_u] on a boy. But I love [name_f]Judy[/name_f] [name_f]Garland[/name_f]!
[name_u]Joan[/name_u] ([name_m]Crawford[/name_m])- I love [name_u]Joan[/name_u]. It’s one of my many GPs (most of the classic names like [name_u]Claude[/name_u] and [name_m]Clark[/name_m] are on there). If it wasn’t seen as a matronly name, I’d have it on my list.
[name_f]Doris[/name_f] ([name_u]Day[/name_u])- Nope. Not ready for this to comeback. Too dusty.
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (Dandridge)- I really like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]. It’s on my GP list with [name_u]Joan[/name_u].
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] ([name_m]Russell[/name_m])- I like [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]. Prefer [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], or just [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but it’s pretty. All the [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names are.
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] (Swanson)- eh. Not really a fan but I don’t have anything against it.
[name_f]Deborah[/name_f] ([name_u]Kerr[/name_u])- I like the meaning of [name_f]Deborah[/name_f], but it’s soooo dated!
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (de Havilland)- eh. I’m over [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. It’s so common near me. Prefer [name_f]Olivine[/name_f].
[name_f]Greer[/name_f] ([name_m]Garson[/name_m])- eh. It’s a little harsh.
[name_f]Bette[/name_f] ([name_m]Davis[/name_m])- I prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] in its full form.
[name_f]Rita[/name_f] (Hayworth)- I’ve always disliked this name.
[name_f]Ginger[/name_f] ([name_m]Rogers[/name_m])- As a redhead always called a “ginger”, I don’t really see the appeal of it is a name. I see it as a nn. [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] is a cute nn though.
[name_f]Carole[/name_f] (Lombard)- I prefer some of the other feminizations of [name_m]Charles[/name_m], like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Carlotta[/name_f] (but really dislike [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], it’s one of my chalkboard names.)
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] (Bacall)- It’s a bit of a 90s name to me. I know so many [name_m]Laurens[/name_m] my age.
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] ([name_f]Gish[/name_f])- I like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. I think it’s a sweet name.
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f] (Stanwyck)- I know a lot of older women named [name_f]Barbara[/name_f]. Super dated to me.
[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] ([name_u]Leigh[/name_u])- I’ve never liked [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] or any of the other spellings but everyone else seems to.

So I guess my favorites are: [name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_m]Paul[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Orson[/name_m], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], [name_m]Frederic[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f], [name_u]Joan[/name_u], and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f].

Boys:
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] - I’m on the fence about this one. I like it but not as a first name. I think it makes a great middle name with the right first name.
[name_u]Cary[/name_u] - Not a fan of [name_u]Cary[/name_u]. I don’t like the sound or how it looks.
[name_m]Humphrey[/name_m] - Dated and unattractive.
[name_m]Marlon[/name_m] - I wouldn’t say I like it but I don’t dislike it either. It’s an ok name.
[name_m]Paul[/name_m] - Good name. Quite handsome.
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] - One of my favourites. [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is a great classic.
[name_m]Errol[/name_m] - Not a fan of [name_m]Errol[/name_m]. Suits a bird more than a human in my opinion.

[name_m]Kirk[/name_m] - Boring. Not a fan.
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u] - Dated.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - I don’t get the hype over [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I think it’s really unattractive and boring.
[name_m]Charlton[/name_m] - Rather dated.
[name_u]Gene[/name_u] - I’m not sure how I feel about [name_u]Gene[/name_u]. I think it would be ok as a middle name.
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] - I like [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] for a boy.
[name_m]Ronald[/name_m] - Great name. Very handsome.
[name_m]Fredric[/name_m] - Not a fan of [name_m]Fredric[/name_m] but I do like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m].

[name_u]Rex[/name_u] - Not bad for a male dog.
[name_m]Tyrone[/name_m] - Unattractive.
[name_u]Howard[/name_u] - Masculine and quite handsome.
[name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] - I don’t think it would work anymore.

Girls:
[name_f]Katharine[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name. Not a fan of the spelling. I prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. It looks so much nicer.
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] - Beautiful name. I love seeing this name.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - Pretty but a little boring.
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f] - Not a bad name. I think it would be lovely as a middle name.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - Beautiful.
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] - Unsure about [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. Sometimes I like it but other times I’m sick of hearing it.
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] - The name is lovely but I don’t care for that spelling. I like [name_f]May[/name_f].
[name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] - Pretty name.
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] - Gorgeous. I really like it as a middle name.

[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] - Pretty.
[name_f]Judy[/name_f] - Not bad as a nickname.
[name_u]Joan[/name_u] - Makes a decent middle name.
[name_f]Doris[/name_f] - Very dated.

[name_f]Rita[/name_f] - Dated.
[name_f]Ginger[/name_f] - Unattractive.
[name_f]Carole[/name_f] - Better as a middle name though quite dated.
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] - Very pretty.
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] - Beautiful name. I really like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f].
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f] - Dated and unattractive.
[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] - I like the name but I prefer [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. It looks much nicer.

[name_u]Love[/name_u]-
[name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Fredric[/name_m], [name_m]Alan[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Doris[/name_f], [name_f]Rita[/name_f]

[name_u]Gary[/name_u] ([name_m]Cooper[/name_m])- I prefer [name_m]Cooper[/name_m] as a firstname, [name_u]Gary[/name_u] is pretty dated for me
[name_m]Humphrey[/name_m]- love this name but already used it on a pet.
[name_m]Paul[/name_m]- ruined by my old boss, but a nice name
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f]- very dated name, don’t expect to see it being used again for a while
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]- I can’t decide if I like this name or not, I recently met a 20-30 year old with this name that has helped shed the old woman image I had before

Names that stand out:
[name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_m]Orson[/name_m], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Joel[/name_m] (love this, a real underused gem)

Not so keen:
[name_m]Humphrey[/name_m], [name_m]Marlon[/name_m], [name_u]Douglas[/name_u], [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], [name_u]Lionel[/name_u], [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] (just no!)
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Carole[/name_f], [name_f]Barbara[/name_f], [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] (too much for a little girl to live up to)

I’m a huge old movie fan, so I got excited when I saw this thread. I was going to do both the men and the women, but I didn’t like nearly any of the men’s names and didn’t want to seem too negative. The ones with asterisks are ones on my actual name list, often because of their namesake on this list.

[name_f]Katharine[/name_f] (Hepburn) - Simple and pretty enough to be a great middle name.
*[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] (Hepburn) - [name_u]Love[/name_u] love love, largely due to Hepburn.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] ([name_u]Gardner[/name_u]) - Too popular right now.
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f] ([name_m]Colbert[/name_m]) - Not popular enough, I like it.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] ([name_u]Loren[/name_u]) - Also too popular.
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] ([name_u]Kelly[/name_u]) - Another I’d consider for a middle name.

[name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] ([name_u]Monroe[/name_u]) - I love the actress, but the name is a little dated. I prefer “[name_f]Norma[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]”.
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] (Bergman) - Too obviously [name_m]German[/name_m], but I can see the appeal.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] ([name_f]Garbo[/name_f]) - Same with [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f].

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] ([name_m]Russell[/name_m]) - I prefer [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] or a lot of other variations.
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] (Swanson) - Not a fan.
[name_f]Deborah[/name_f] ([name_u]Kerr[/name_u]) - Too dated.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (de Havilland) - Too popular at the moment.
[name_f]Greer[/name_f] ([name_m]Garson[/name_m]) - I’d consider this too closely attached with the actress, and not a very pretty name besides.
[name_f]Bette[/name_f] ([name_m]Davis[/name_m]) - A nice nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but not something I like alone.
[name_f]Rita[/name_f] (Hayworth) Also too dated.
[name_f]Ginger[/name_f] ([name_m]Rogers[/name_m]) - A cute nickname, but the same for [name_f]Bette[/name_f], not my favorite actual name.

[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] (Bacall) - This name is growing on me, almost enough to add to my list.
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] ([name_f]Gish[/name_f]) - I like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] better.
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f] (Stanwyck) - Again, too dated.

[name_u]Douglas[/name_u] ([name_m]Fairbanks[/name_m])- I kinda like it, and I think it could become more popular. There is a young actor named [name_u]Douglas[/name_u] [name_m]Booth[/name_m].
