I love the name [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] but I’ve been seeing it everywhere recently and worried it’s becoming popular so came across [name_f]Clelia[/name_f] while I was looking at alternatives.
Also if anyone has any other suggestions that are of a similar style.
I think it’s too difficult to pronounce and would be tricky for a child to wear. I also feel it’s rather unpleasant to the eye, almost looks like a name of a disease or condition. I would go with [name_f]Celia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] as an alternative; still very uncommon but manageable for the everyday person. Sorry to be harsh! [name_m]Just[/name_m] if you’re thinking of a name to give a real person, but if you’re just enjoying names then that’s a different story!
clelia is intruiging - personally i find it a little hard to pronounce with the ‘l’ sounds but it’s a good choice if you’re looking for something rare ! i second that it sounds a little clinical too
i found a similar name - cloelia - online, maybe you’d like that too ? or aurelie ?
Ooh, how cool! I really like it! Initially, I like it better than its alternate sisters, namely [name_f]Celia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. [name_f]Clelia[/name_f] feels more punchy, more exciting. I love [name_f]Clea[/name_f] as a nickname option (CLAY-uh, as I’m thinking [name_f]Clelia[/name_f] is CLAY-lee-uh).
Personally, I don’t find it any harder to pronounce than [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_m]Galileo[/name_m], or [name_f]Luella[/name_f], which all have close L sounds.
I actually really love [name_f]Clelia[/name_f]! It feels artsy and distinctive and I think the right kind of person could pull it off quite well. I have no trouble pronouncing it (my trouble is with Rs), but those that have issues with Ls might have difficulty, especially if one of those was a little [name_f]Clelia[/name_f] herself! I still think it’s worth holding on to, though!
I think Clelia is a great alternative to Aurelia!! I think the reason people are having pronunciation issues is because they’re not sure if it’s CLEE-lee-uh or CLAY-lee-uh, but however you choose to pronounce it, I think people will be able to understand
It’s familiar yet has an air of mysticality to it, which is so nice! Either way, I like the nn Clea a lot as some other berries have said (pn CLEE-uh or CLAY-uh, depending on how you’re saying Clelia)
I agree that it’s awkward to say - a bit of a tongue twister - and it kinda looks like a mashup of [name_f]Clea[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Clea[/name_f], [name_u]Cleo[/name_u], and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f].
I like it! It’s interesting and unique but isn’t made up or too out there. It doesn’t seem hard to pronounce to me. I would instinctively say cleh-lee-uh but I could see clee-lee-uh also. Clay-lee-uh doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but I can understand why some people might say that. Regardless I like any of these pronunciations and even if someone pronounced it wrong it’s not that hard to correct and it’s not any worse than any other name with multiple pronunciations like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f].
I think it’s pretty - and I say CLEH-lee-uh - but it is a little phlegmy for me!
Having said that, I like similar names:
[name_f]Clothilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Clotilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ciel[/name_u]
[name_f]Clea[/name_f]
Cleo/Clio
Oh, and of course [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
I like this name but I think it would probably work best if you live an area where people are familiar with Italian names. Otherwise you might get people not knowing how to pronounce it and maybe some unkind comments about it, as seen in this thread.
