Thoughts on the name Hamilton?

I grew up with someone named [name]Hamilton[/name] and always thought he had a very strange name, now that I’ve been thinking about it, I’m considering it to be a name for my future son. I don’t like the name [name]Milton[/name] at all but I think [name]Hamilton[/name] is much cuter and even a bit more modern than [name]Milton[/name]. I would want my son to like his name, and I wouldn’t want him to be ridiculed or anything so I was wondering what you guys thought of it. The old names do come back !

I went to college with a [name]Hamilton[/name] who went by Hammie, which I hated. Hammy. Hammie. [name]Ham[/name]. Urg. But as far as I know, he liked being a [name]Hamilton[/name].

And all that said, I would totally get behind a [name]Hamilton[/name] nn [name]Milo[/name]! I think that’s totally striking, and I like the history tied to [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Hamilton[/name].

I think it is more usable on a dog, but I love nn [name]Milo[/name], but he may be called [name]Ham[/name] which is not a nice association. [name]Love[/name] the history connection.

my first thought - ham.

[name]Hamilton[/name] is a very old family name for me, and it’s been on my list since I made my first “real” list in ninth grade. I love it. I have a hard time imagining it as a first name because it’s always a middle name in my family… I could see it though. [name]Milo[/name] is genius as a nickname. My grandmother’s brother goes by [name]Hamil[/name].

I think he would be called Hammy by his classmates. I mean, if he’d be a jokester, he could pull it off and become the cool kid. But if he’s shy he might discourage him. But if you like the name, go for it! I’m sure his future classmates may have crazier names.

Other names that are similar to [name]Hamilton[/name]:

  • [name]Hamish[/name] (hay-mish)
  • [name]Remington[/name]
  • [name]Kingston[/name]
  • [name]Hamill[/name]
  • [name]Hamlet[/name]
  • Hillier?
  • Pretty much any name ending in -ton

I’m sorry if I wasn’t very helpful.

I think Hammie is cute! But perhaps his classmates wouldn’t and little Hammy would get heartily sick of pig jokes/sounds. Hammie on a baby seems oh-so-adorable to me, though.

[name]Hamilton[/name] is the name of the town where I used to live and it’s really steeped in family history for me. I’ve considered using [name]Hamilton[/name] as a middle name because of that, but I’m not sure I’d use it as a first name. However, I think it’s cute and would make a fine name. I especially love the idea of the nn [name]Milo[/name]!

It currently reminds me of gangster [name]Raymond[/name] [name]Hamilton[/name], since lately I have been reading about [name]Bonnie[/name] and [name]Clyde[/name], he was in their gang. I don’t think the name is ba dor good. I think if it’s a family name use it :).

It makes me think of [name]Hamilton[/name] (the pig) on that kids show, [name]Maggie[/name] and the Ferocious Beast… [name]Hamilton[/name] may be fine, but his nn was Hammy, which I definitely think would be a problem.

I like [name]Hamilton[/name]; it sounds slightly old-fashioned and like something a noble, titled British family would use. It also reminds me of Gone With the Wind- it was [name]Melanie[/name]‘s, [name]Charles[/name]’, Pittypat’s and Uncle [name]Henry[/name]'s last name. However, it’s the name of a town near where I live- it’s not stigmatized or looked down upon, but by no means interesting or particularly cultural either.
