[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this name! It is one of my [name_m]French[/name_m] favourites. But yes I always pronounce this the [name_m]French[/name_m] way in my mind, not sure I would like it that much in a non-[name_m]French[/name_m] setting.
I really like [name_f]Magali[/name_f]. I think it’s a very pretty and interesting alternative to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]/[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. I agree with you about it sounding nicer in a [name_m]French[/name_m] accent, though I feel that way about most [name_m]French[/name_m] names.
I have read [name_f]Magali[/name_f] is considered a rather dated name in [name_f]France[/name_f] but that’s probably not an issue if you live elsewhere.

I didn’t know [name_f]Magali[/name_f] was a [name_m]French[/name_m] name! I have only ever heard it in relation to the children’s comic book character in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u]. In Portuguese it is pronounced mah-gah-[name_u]LEE[/name_u] (emphasis on the last syllable), which is how I would automatically pronounce it. I like it with that pronunciation, but when I image saying it in my midwestern English accent (mag-uh-lee, emphasis first syllable, or even worse mag-uh-lie) I don’t much like the sound.
My last name actually shares the first five letters with this name, so I have heard those first two syllables butchered plenty to shy away from this name in an English context.
[name_f]Magali[/name_f] is sweet and reminds me of [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] (which I love) and [name_f]Magda[/name_f]. An unique alternative! At first I thought [name_f]Magali[/name_f] was a surname.
I think this is a very fun name that also manages to come off as serious. I like it!

I completely know what you mean!!! My cousin has a very similar name, and it sounds perfectly fine and lovely when we are all speaking, but I can’t get over how odd it sounds in English.

I love it! However, DH has [name_m]French[/name_m] family and I can confirm that it is seen as a very middle-aged name in [name_f]France[/name_f]. It’s barely given to newborns any more, like [name_f]Debra[/name_f] or [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] over here. It’s got such a funky, lively sound though, in my opinion.
[name_f]Magali[/name_f] is lovely! She has something of the floral feel of [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] for me, but with a cheeky, tousle-haired edge.
I don’t think the name being dated in [name_f]France[/name_f] should put you off at all. It seems like a rather ironic concern since [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], for example, is the typical dowdy mum name in [name_f]France[/name_f], and yet couldn’t be more stylish in the English-speaking world. A name is for life, anyway, so why should it matter how it is perceived at the time of a baby’s birth?
The [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation is softer and definitely sounds better, but if you’re living in an English speaking place you’re generally going to hear it pronounced that way and if you don’t love it that way I wouldn’t choose the name for your baby. However, I love the way [name_f]Magali[/name_f] looks spelled out and I personally don’t mind the English pronunciation, though I do agree that the [name_m]French[/name_m] sounds better.
Also, for anyone who is confused about the pronunciation, the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation is “mah-gah-lee”, with the short “a” sound of “mat” and an ever-so-slightly more guttural “g” than in English, making the overall pronunciation softer.
