What do you think of Mariner?
I don’t see why it can’t work, with all the other occupational names popular.
I think it’s pretty neat. It doesn’t have an obvious nickname and people might not know how to pronounce it ([name_f]MARE[/name_f]-in-er? [name_f]MAR[/name_f]-NER?) but there’s something very romantic about the ocean connotations.
I’m from the [name_m]Pacific[/name_m] Northwest, and 100% connect “Mariner” to the baseball team. Not sure if that’s just because of the region where I grew up in or if it’s a result of my baseball-loving family. But to me, it would be like naming a kid Dodger or Yankee.
On the other hand, I do like the sound and meaning of Mariner. I think [name_f]Marina[/name_f] for a girl is beautiful, but Mariner is definitely on the fence for me.
I only know of a girl Mariner so it’s associated with her and the nn’s seem to be more girl-oriented, but as pp said, it’s all in keeping with the occupations trend.
