I know Ocean is typically used for girls and the name itself isn’t a lot of people’s taste, but I can’t help but absolutely love the name Ocean on a boy. It’s kind of like a guilty pleasure. I can definitely see myself naming a male character Ocean, and if I ever have a son I don’t think I’d make that his first name just because it’s so commonly thought of as a girl’s name, but I could definitely make it a middle.
What do you guys think? I know this is probably a pretty unpopular opinion.
I see it more for a boy than a girl. I’ve never met an [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] of any gender.
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I was surprised it was supposed to be a girl’s name so I checked and all the internet seems to agree that it’s gender-neutral.
Really cool for a boy! It feels pretty gender neutral because it’s a nature name. I think in the US it’s actually more popular for boys than for girls (711 vs 877 in 2021)!
Wow! I guess it wasn’t as unpopular of an opinion as I thought. It’s nice to know that other people think it’s a more masculine-leaning name. [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] [name_m]Vuong[/name_m] is definitely a good association.
I definitely don’t view it as a girl’s name. I’ve never met an [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] in real life, but of those I’ve seen online I think it’s about an even mix of boys and girls with the name. First one that comes to mind is [name_m]Carlos[/name_m] Pena and [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] Vega’s son.
I looooove any feminine names on boys, so I love [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] for a boy! If you love [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] for a boy I’d say use it! And I agree with others above, even though it seems more popular for girls I also think it’s neutral
