I landed on this name recently. The character from the Odyssey, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], is a personal favourite, and I’ve been liking the sound of the Greek name [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] next to the overtly Latin name [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is also just a super fun word to say aloud.
What are your thoughts on this name- the first, the middle, the nickname? Opinions of all sorts welcome.
Also, when you hear the name [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]- does it bring to mind the little flower, or does it make you think of when people refer to their granddad as “poppy”?
While [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] isn’t my style (due to its popularity and English pronunciation), I like the sound of [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]! [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] adds a lot of elegance to it. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]'s cute, though since I saw someone misspell it as “poopy” I can’t stop thinking of that.
I’m not generally super keen on [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] (although I love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]!), but [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] “[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]” is to die for! I adore [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].
I really like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].
Personally I like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] a bit more than [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], and as I’m used to [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as a full name in its own right it’s a little strange to see it as a nickname, but I think it works. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is a fairly common name in the UK, I think of the flower and the myriad of women/girls I know with the name.
Generally, find [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] to be kind of boring due to recent popularity. But I think it is stunning with [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nickname [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] too. Poppies are my favorite flower so the name always makes me happy.
